Dear Coleman Cobra Families,
Welcome to the 2021-22 school year! We look forward to this school year where “Learning Can
Take You Anywhere”. We are welcoming over 1000 Coleman Cobras on August 10!
Thank you in advance as we continue to work through schooling during a global pandemic. Our
students have been so resilient and flexible and I know that will continue. Our amazing teachers
and staff are excited about the upcoming year as and will continue to ensure our students’ school
year is one full of learning, growth and success during these unprecedented times.
As principal, I am looking forward to meeting parents and families this year face-to-face at Open
House on August 5. We do ask that students only bring one adult to Open House to assist with
overcrowding. To all of our Coleman Cobras, continue to believe in yourselves and you can do un-
believable things. YOU GOT THIS. It’s going to be a great school
year!
Sincerely, Odalys Pritchard, Coleman Middle School Principal

CMS On Campus Policies and Procedures
As students will not have hall lockers, student may use backpacks/bookbags. Roll-
ing backpacks are allowed.
Due to “Distracted Learning,” students are only able to access their cell phones on campus before
school, during their assigned lunch, and after school. Students should not be using cell phones
in hallways between classes once the school day has begun. Students will be expected to follow the
guidelines for cell phone use in the HCPS Student Code of Conduct.
No outside food/beverages (Starbucks, Chick Fil A etc.) are allowed on campus. Students must con-
sume items before entering gates. Similarly, no outside food items will be accepted by the front office
for delivery to students at lunch.
Forgotten items are not accepted for delivery to students by front office staff. This includes personal
items, school assignments, etc. Parents should reach out to teachers directly via email or Can-
vas if they have a concern about an assignment, etc left at home.
• Students may not be signed out after 3:50 p.m. (2:50 p.m. on Early Release Mondays).
• Late to school: Students begin their school day in an academic class (1st period) promptly at 9:25.
Any student arriving late to 1st period must sign-in through the main office. Please note HCPS code
of conduct:
“Any student arriving to school after the session has begun must report to the Main Office or Office of
Student Affairs. An admit shall be issued indicating excused or unexcused tardy or absence. For the stu-
dent to receive an excused sign-in, a parent or guardian must accompany the student to the Main Office
and give an excusable reason. More than two sign-in’s in a grading period shall require medical or other
documentation and/or a parent must be present in order to be considered excused.”
• PE Sign–outs: If your child is in PE class when called for a sign-out, please note it will take addition-
al time for your child to arrive in the office (10+ extra minutes in some cases) as students who are
across the street on the track must be escorted back to the main office by CMS staff. Thank you for
your patience and understanding.
• All prescription and non-prescription medications will be administered by the school nurse. Students
should not have ANY medication in their possession at school (prescription or non-prescription).
Medications must be checked in with the nurse in the original containers with the doctor’s instruc-
tions. For more information, please contact Nurse Wendy at 872-5335 x 236.

• The car line is the safest way to pick up your child(-

board buses as they arrive.
BIKE RIDERS
Arrival:
• Bike riders may use the gate in between room 85 and
the Gym or use the bike rack/entrance at the front of
the school.
• We recommend the use of a bike lock for all bicycles.

gates; the bike rack at the front of the school is not.
• Students should arrive on campus no earlier than
9:05 a.m.

CMS Families:
Our athletic season will begin in August. This is a great time to start filling out the sports application online. All sports packets are completed online at planeths.com. Paper copies will not be accepted. The attachment(s) will guide you through the set-up process if you haven't already used the system before.
There are 3 videos (Concussion in Sports, Sudden Cardiac Arrest, and Heat Ill-ness) that students must watch each school year. Certificates of completion will show up after each video and certificates must have student's first and last name on them. You can ac-cess the videos through the school district's website under the athletics page under student forms. These certificates will need to be uploaded as part of the sports packet. Sports packets are reviewed in the order in which the sports are played. Below are some of the items that are frequently denied: 1. Video certificates are not in student's name. 2. Mandatory district insurance has not been purchased or receipt of purchase has not been
uploaded. 3. EL2 sports physical paperwork (3 page document found on district website under athletics
page) is not uploaded or the sports physical does not have the physician's clinic stamp and date.
Also, please be sure to input the correct names as you fill out the documents. Many times the sports application is in the parent's name because the parent's name was put in a slot desig-nated for the student's name. Below are the order/month when each sport will tentatively start. Specific tryout dates and practices will be sent out as we approach each sport. Normal rule of thumb will be that sports packets are due a week and a half before the tryout date. Basketball-August Volleyball-October Track- November Soccer- January Flag Football- March If you have any specific questions regarding sports applications, please feel free to reach out to Ms. Carr at [email protected].
