The knowledge and understanding of the Bible will help us with solving our problems, enhancing our spiritual life and making us better participants of the Holy Mass. I am inviting my parishioners to a second term of the Bible Studies. I am very thankful to Mr. Gary Zilli for running these studies. He is well prepared for teaching this. Our Archbishop Allen Vigneron is very much concerned about our dioceses and all Catholics in our cities and villages. Without knowing the Gospel and the entire Bible, we cannot be rational and devoted Catholics. Therefore, Archbishop Vigneron established the “Unleash the Gospel” movement that took several stages. It began in March 2014 with an announcement of a year of prayer for a new Pentecost – the Inspiration of the Holy Spirit. In 2015-2016 missions were offered to the parishes to come, “Encounter Christ”. In our parish, we had several talks by Fr. Chris Alar, Father Michel Rodrigue, Fr. Stephen Pullis, me, Mary Martin from the AoD, Gary Zilli and Ronnie Gietzen. Later, we had a parish dialogue gathering and as a result of it the Archbishop wrote “A Pastoral Letter, “Unleash the Gospel”. It is a good and visionary letter that all Catholics should read and implement into their lives. As a result of this letter, many parishes continue or introduced Bible Studies, Alpha Programs, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and Marian Devotions. Here at our parish we have them all. Bible Study on the Book of Revelation

You will discover what the mysterious figures and images of Revelation mean. You will see how Revelation is more than just an apocalyptic vision of the “end times.” It is a revelation of God as our Divine Bridegroom and the Church as His spotless Bride, forever united in a heavenly, holy and mystical marriage that we enter into every time we celebrate the Mass. The bible study will take place in the parish office conference room or social hall on Tuesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. It consists of 10 sessions: February 25, March 3, March 10, March 24, March 31, April 7, April 14, April 21, April 28, and May 5. How the bible study works: 1. Home preparation: reading scripture and answering questions. 2. Group discussion: sharing insights into the readings. 3. Video presentation: Jeff Cavins wraps up each session giving you a deeper understanding of the readings and how they apply to your life. 4. Review of responses The cost of the text book is $25 for the course. If you have questions, please call Gary Zilli at (586) 675-0073.

WEATHER POLICY

This year St. Faustina is implementing a new weather policy. If Warren Woods School District cancels classes because of the weather, St. Faustina’s parish offices will also be closed, and there will be NO MASS that day (except a funeral). You may think, “But our priest is right next door!” While that is true, we are not always able to clear the sidewalks and parking lot before daily Mass and morning activities begin and this can create a dangerous risk to our parishioners. Please watch your TV for school closings. We will also post it on our webpage at stfaustinawarren.org.

Unleash the Gospel Minute: Parishes and UTG

Last weeks' article was about the support disciples need from God, fellow Catholics, and parishes, concluding “Parishes need to constantly foster opportunities for people to encounter Jesus; help parishioners to grow continually in discipleship and deepen their relationship with Christ; and help every parishioner become a witness to God’s everlasting mercy and thereby unleash the Gospel to everyone they meet.” (UTG, Guidepost 9) How can a parish do all that? First, parishioners and parish leaders must be constantly reminded WHY they need to 'do all that': the Church exists in order to evangelize (Evangelii Nuntiandi). Once everyone shares a vision of 'our parish as one that exists in order to evangelize', we can begin to strategize about how that will happen. Evangelization can be simplified into four steps: Pre-Evangelization, Evangelization, Discipleship, and Apostolate (more detail on these in a future UTG column). Each parish must envision a clear path to discipleship which may look something like this: Invited to St. Faustina – invited to relationship with Jesus – invited to growth – invited to leadership – invited to multiply. One of the first steps for parishes to take will be to evaluate everything they do, and prioritize (through use of time and money) the activities and programs that support evangelization (this is one of the jobs of a Parish Leadership Team). The next step will be to see what gaps exist - what are we asking people to do that we aren't showing them how to do? - and work towards filling those gaps. Next week: More on parishes Unleashing the Gospel
