Five Step Process of Establishing Pay Rates

Conduct a salary survey of what other employees are paying for comparable jobs (to ensure external equity).

Determine the worth of each job in your organization through job valuation (to ensure internal equity).

Group similar jobs into pay grades.

Price each pay grade by using wage curves.

Job Evaluation

Job evaluation is aimed at determining a job’srelative worth. It is a formal and systematiccomparison of jobs to determine the worthof one job relative to another and eventuallyresults in a wage or survey hierarchy.
