Security
What about security?
Where is the best place for my data?
Company or School Servers In the Cloud
Security - There is no 100% security:
Why is security so tough?
Google Confidential and Proprietary
Data Problem: Users want to access their data anytime, from anywhere
of enterprise data resides unprotected on PC
desktops and laptops
60%laptop computers will
be stolen within 12 months of purchase
1-out-of-10of USB thumb drive owners
report losing them, over 60% with private enterprise data on them
66%
Infrastructure security
Purpose-built infrastructure•Hundreds of thousands of identical servers•Custom, hardened Linux OS•Can rapidly update all systems•No third-party security issues
World Class Security•Industry-leading experts•Obfuscation of data at rest•Security reviews for all code SAS 70 Type II certification
EDU Specific Privacy and Compliance
1. Google does not own your data; you do.
2. Google does not access your data unless: a) you ask Goolge to for troubleshooting purposes b) there is a court order or subpoena
3. Google does not "mine" your data for ads since ads are disabled.
5. Google provides you granular privacy controls in the product, e.g. calendar, emai,l and contact sharing options.

Step 5 - Provision Users
You can add users manually through the control panel, upload batches in CSV files, or sync your LDAP server with Google Apps Directory Sync. For schools with greater needs, we recommend using the Provisioning API or contacting a Google Apps partner.
Step 5 - Provision Users
Step 6 - Configure email delivery (MX)

PostiniDual Delivery
Step 6 - Configure email delivery (DKIM, SPF)
OPTIONAL: Easy with plain Gmail, slightly more difficult with Postini
DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) lets an organization take responsibility for a message while it is in transit. The organization is a handler of the message, either as its originator or as an intermediary. Their reputation is the basis for evaluating whether to trust the message for further handling, such as delivery. Technically DKIM provides a method for validating a domain name identity that is associated with a message through cryptographic authentication. ~ dkim.org
Even more precisely, SPFv1 allows the owner of a domain to specify their mail sending policy, e.g. which mail servers they use to send mail from their domain. The technology requires two sides to play together: (1) the domain owner publishes this information in an SPF record in the domain's DNS zone, and when someone else's mail server receives a message claiming to come from that domain, then (2) the receiving server can check whether the message complies with the domain's stated policy. If, e.g., the message comes from an unknown server, it can be considered a fake. ~ openspf.net
