Twin Lakes Woods will come alive for one very magical, mystical night! Participants will walk for the first part of the tour. Then Narrators will tell you the story of the haunted woods as they conduct guided tours on hayrides. The theme for 2017 is Paranormal Prison. Don’t turn your back, as characters, ghouls and creatures will come alive before your very eyes! We will again offer our Merry Monsters Matinee performance from 5:00-6:30P for younger children.

• TICKET SALES END AT 9:00PM.• Tours are ongoing so you may arrive at any time. • Pay at the door for regular tickets.• Due to the popularity of the event, there may be a short wait. Entertainment will be provided during the wait. • Please park along 59th St., at Twin Lakes Golf Club or the Twin Lakes Learning Center.

Again this year, we offer the Haunted Events Fast Pass. Don’t wait in the long line anymore. Bypass all others that bought a regular ticket. The fast pass allows access to Woodridge Haunted Forest Walk and Downers Grove Suburban Horror Story. Visit all three in one night or over a weekend. The Fast Pass will cost $30 and will only be available to purchase before the event for Westmont and Downers Grove. Woodridge will only be selling the Fast Pass the day of the event.

chicago’s sweet candy historyFor most of its history, Chicago produced about one-third of the nation’s candy. You probably know some candies made or invented here: Brach’s caramels, Snickers and Milky Way bars, Wrigley’s gum, Cracker Jack, Baby Ruth and Butterfinger, Tootsie Rolls, Frango Mints. Learn the history of these tasty treats and explore what made Chicago such an ideal location for candymakers. Find out why immigrants played a critical role in confectionery history, discover how Baby Ruth and Milk Duds got their names, and take a fun “candy quiz.” It’s delicious fun! Please call the museum curator at 630-969-8080 to reserve your seat!

Hello Westmont Residents, The leaves are now falling and gone are the warm, carefree summer days. At the Westmont Park District, however, our fall and early winter season is packed with fun! Halloween season is a busy one for us. Our Last Straw Fall Event at the Gregg House Museum kicks off the season on October 1 with games, treats, and scarecrows. The Haunted Forest returns with a new theme, “Paranormal Prison!” If you’ve never seen this awesome event, be sure to join us on October 21 as Twin Lakes Woods comes alive; it’s an incredible event that we are very proud to bring to the community. To wrap up October, our Halloween Fun Fair at the Community Center is especially great for little ones. Come in your Halloween best and take part in our costume parade, play games and enjoy an awesome show. Holly Days, my personal favorite, returns with our Decorating Day and the Gift Bazaar on November 19. The Frosty & Friends Night Parade and official tree lighting ceremony will take place on Saturday, November 25. Other Holly Day events include The Polar Express, “How Sweet It Is” at The Gregg House Museum and much more. If you’re looking for some passive time, head over to one of our parks and just take a walk while soaking up the peacefulness that only early winter brings. Last but not least, we are extremely excited for the development of our newest neighborhood open space; Robert W. Bernas Park. Located at 5716 S. Wilmette Ave., Bernas Park will be the largest neighborhood park in the District at 6.78 acres. The design emphasizes passive recreation, open space, native habitat and the idea that rain water is a resource, not a hazardous waste. Amenities include a permeable paver parking lot, playground, open air shelter, restrooms, wetland restoration, wetland boardwalk, fishing pier and walking path. Construction is scheduled to be complete September of 2018. The Westmont Park District is here to enhance your life here at home. We always welcome your comments and suggestions. Be excited… look to us to add fun to your life!

Broomballall ages welcome!Broomball was first played in Canada in the early 1900s, but it wasn’t until the 1960s that leagues were actually created. It is a fun sport with simple rules. It follows many hockey rules and incorporates some soccer into it as well. Although Broomball is played on an ice rink, ice skating skills are not required because the players wear rubber-soled shoes instead of ice skates. The object of the game is to get the ball into the goal by only using your “stick”. (Just like hockey) You are invited to join us for a night of broom ball at the park district. Munro Light showFor the first time in the Chicago region and only the eighth time in the United States, renowned British artist Bruce Munro brings his garden wide sculpture exhibition LIGHT to the Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens in Rockford. Munro is best known for producing large immersive light-based installations. You will have the unique opportunity to see these incredible illuminated sculptures as the sun goes down in the evening. The Gardens and Conservatory will provide a stunning backdrop for eight sculptures, including Munro’s iconic “Field of Light” and “Water-Towers.” Two new works will also debut; “Sun,” a monumental globe, suspended inside the Conservatory, and “Don’s Flamingos,” a playful homage to the designer of the pink lawn flamingo, Don Featherstone. Among the select venues Munro’s works have appeared include the Guggenheim Museum, the Rothschild Collections, UK; and Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania. Munro chose the Nicholas Conservatory after he visited and was captivated by the garden landscape and the beauty of the adjacent Rock River. After a mid-afternoon departure, we stop for dinner at the outstanding Machine Shed Restaurant in Rockford where we enjoy a wonderful family style dinner. Afterward, it’s a short ride to Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens to experience LIGHT this evening!

On the road again! route 66, Part ii/Dwight to atlanta, iL

The road continues when you join us for Part 2 of the fabulous tour down America’s mother road Route 66! Renowned Route 66 author and guide John Weiss picks up from our original tour and narrates a fabulous stretch of iconic Route 66 from Dwight, IL all the way to the fascinating community

of Atlanta, IL. Included on the tour are TWO MEALS! As we begin our tour in Dwight, we will enjoy a great breakfast at the nostalgic Route 66 Diner in Dwight, just after 9AM. Then it’s off on our journey south on 66. Some of the unique things you will see along the way are the Old Illinois State Police office with its sleek Art Moderne architecture that reflected the streamlined designs of autos of the era. In Lexington, see Memory Lane, a one mile stretch of original Route 66 dedicated in 1926. It has been restored back to the 1940s era with fun vintage billboards. In Bloomington-Normal, we stop to see Sprague’s Super Service. This filling station built in the 1930’s was one of the first multi-service stations in the country and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. We also visit the famous Beer Nuts factory and outlet store to learn the history and sample products on a stretch where 66 once ran. At the old historic McLean County Courthouse a new Visitors Center features a Rte. 66 gift shop and exhibits. In Atlanta, see small town America on Route 66 including its charming shops, diners, wall murals and its giant Paul Bunyan “muffler man” statue. We finish our great Route 66 tour with dinner at the classy Country Mansion Restaurant back in Dwight around 4:15 PM. Don’t miss the fun, “as we get our kicks on Route 66”!

a wonderful Life, the MusicalToday we visit Theatre at the Center where Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winner Sheldon Harnick captures the magic of the classic holiday film “It’s A Wonderful Life.” George Bailey’s Christmas Eve is transformed by an angel eager to earn his wings by showing the guiding influence one person has on so many others. Filled with the beauty of the season, Bedford Falls bursts on stage with yuletide spirit (despite Old Man Potter’s miserly plans) for a musical that applauds the true meaning of Christmas. Today’s delightful holiday menu is broccoli cheese soup, baked glazed ham or baked chicken, mashed sweet potatoes, corn O’Brien with green and red pepper, and chocolate raspberry cake.

Newsies at Marriott theaterA Thousand Voices, a Single Dream! This Disney inspired real-life New York City Newsboy Strike of 1899 is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged ‘newsies,’ who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when the newspaper publishing titans raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to fight them. With Tony award winning music by Alan Menken, this recent Broadway smash is a high-energy musical thrill that you won’t want to miss. A delicious plated lunch will be served at Marriott’s newly remodeled restaurant.
