Ephesians 5:1 “Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children.” Now that my youngest daughter, Zoe, is two years old, she is at the point of imitating what mom, dad and her older sister do. If you’ve been around children, then you might remember the times that the daughter will put on your shoes so she can be just like mom, or the son that will want to drive the Power Wheels truck so he can drive just like his dad. It really can be amusing for us at the Edge residence as Zoe will start scratching her head for no reason. I would ask her if her head itches and she will say that it doesn’t. So then why is she scratching her head? Oh, it’s because I was scratching mine. She imitates without even knowing it. She observes and acts out of instinct. She does what her parents and older sister do. This is what the Apostle Paul had in mind when he wrote Ephesians 5:1 “Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children.” As God’s children, we live under the protection and grace of Jesus, who loves each one of us dearly. Just like little children imitate their father, we too imitate God our Father. The love that God has for you is beyond any measure and this love is made manifest in Christ himself and the sacrifice that He did for you on the cross. Paul continues in Ephesians 5:2 “and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” Paul tells us specifically how we should imitate God. Because we have been baptized into the death and resurrection of Christ (Romans 6:4), we are His body (1 Corinthians 12:13). Since Christ lives in us (Romans 8:9), we too act like Christ

(see also 1 Thessalonians 1:6). We imitate Him because He lives in us. We want to be just like him and by the power of the Holy Spirit, He makes us like His son. This is why Paul was able to encourage us to love others by giving ourselves to others. “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen” (Ephesians 5:20-21).

Sunday School for All Ages

Ages 2 years to Kindergarten-Miss Marquise, room 5 Growing in Christ-Jesus is Alive September is a special craft month for the Sunday School children. Each week they will hear a Bible lesson and then make a special craft to help illustrated the story. Next month you will get to see pictures of their art work. Elementary-Cross Explorations-Mr. Emery-room 6 The first Sunday in September, the children will be learning “The Wisdom of Solomon” serves as the focus of the Sunday School lesson the first week of September. Solomon, though wise, needed what we and all sinners need: Christ, Wisdom Himself, and the forgiveness He brings. The Sunday School lesson the second week will focus on “Solomon Builds the Temple.” Though God resided within the Old Testament temple, He was hidden behind the veil in the Most Holy Place. Jesus is the unveiled Most Holy Place, accessible to all, enfolding believers in the arms of His Word and Sacraments. The third Sunday, the

Sunday School lesson will be “God Provides for Elijah.” Just as God provided food and life for Elijah, the widow, and her son, so He provides food, forgiveness, and life eternal for us in Christ. “Elijah and the Prophets of Baal” serves as the lesson focus for the last Sunday. Just as the true God revealed Himself on the altar of Mount Carmel, so on the cross-shaped altar of Mount Calvary Jesus revealed, once and for all, that He alone is the real God who loves us enough to die for us.

Confirmation Class-Pastor Edge-grades 6th-High School, room 6b Students will learn the Six Chief Parts of Christian Doctrine through a review of Luther's Small Catechism. Beginning with God’s Will (Law and Gospel; the Ten Commandments) These lessons will introduce and develop the topic, then it will allow the students to respond with real-life applications of the material learned. High School-Mr. Murray room 10 & 11 Spiritual Gifts: Spiritual Bodybuilding, What are Yours?, Putting Them to Work The lessons are constructed around a solid teaching that digs deep into Scripture and applies God's Word to the lives of the students. SALC to host blood drive for Lucas Reznchenko. Lucas has leukemia and is the ECC student that we have been praying for since 2014. This past year he has experienced a relapse, so in his honor we will be hosting a blood drive on Sunday, September 17

th.

The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is the community’s Blood Center. They provide for patients in 170+

hospitals and to accomplish this they must collect 1,000 units daily. Sign up today by calling the church office 713-468-9565 or online www.giveblood.org and login to Digital Donor. Enter sponsor code 9857. BEFORE YOU DONATE • Do not donate on an empty stomach. • Eat a healthy meal before you donate

blood. • Avoid fatty foods for 24 hours before you donate. • Eat iron rich foods to boost iron, such as lean meat or

fish, green leafy vegetables and iron-fortified cereal. Increasing vitamin C in your system will help with iron absorption.

• Drink plenty of water or fruit juice the night and morning before you donate. Avoid drinking caffeinated drinks which can cause dehydration.

• Get a good night’s sleep. No matter what blood type you are, we’ve got you-and your

LUTHERAN SCHOOLS — SEPTEMBER 1–15 The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod’s (LCMS) School Ministry serves as a national voice for Lutheran schools, upholding the standards of Christ-centered schools that are academically strong and respectfully operated. Nationwide, there are 2,029 LCMS schools, which include 1,150 early childhood centers, 793 elementary schools and 86 high schools.

Remember God’s works in Lutheran schools as you pray:

1. for the children attending Lu-

theran schools, that their eyes, ears,

hearts and minds would be open to

God’s Word.

2. for Lutheran school teachers,

that they would correctly divide and

deliver Law and Gospel to students

through real-life applications each

day.

3. for Lutheran school principals,

who lead stakeholders to passion-

ately embrace the witness our

schools provide to the community.

Pray that pastors, principals, direc-

tors and teachers would work to-

gether in God-pleasing unity.

4. for pastors, who champion the

Kingdom work happening in our

schools. Pray that pastors would be

excited to be an integral part of their

school’s ministry and the teaching of

the children.

5. for the ability of Lutheran

schools to serve every child in their

care. Ask that the Lord would pro-

vide the means to help schools

serve children who have disabilities,

who have experienced trauma or

who come from families with limited

resources.

6. for Lutheran schools that are

struggling to fill empty seats. Pray

that God would revitalize their minis-

tries, energize their staff members

and bring more children through

their doors.

7. for parents who support our

Lutheran schools with their time,

talents and treasures. Give thanks

for their dedication to the mission of

the school.

8. for daily opportunities for our

teachers and staff to show God’s

mercy, love and forgiveness both

inside and outside of the classroom.

Pray that God would maintain our

ability to practice our faith in Luther-

an schools.

9. for church members who tell the

story of their Lutheran school, that

their recommendation might lead

more students through the school’s

doors.

10. for courageous Lutheran

schools willing to take calculated

risks that will result in significant

rewards for students. Give the lead-

ers of these schools wisdom in their

decisions.

11. for the many non-Christians

and exchange students who are

coming to our schools. Many of

them are hearing the Gospel for the

very first time. Pray that Gospel

seeds will be planted and watered

and that they will come to know

Jesus.

12. for first-year teachers, that

they may understand the mission of

our schools and apply their gifts to

demonstrate grace and mercy. Pray

that God would give them strength

and patience.

13. for our early childhood centers

that serve on the front lines to intro-

duce young families to the saving

love of Jesus. Pray that they are a

faithful witness to the littlest of God’s

children and their families.

14. for comfort and healing for

school faculty and students during

times of injury, illness and loss.

15. for God to raise up wise and

gifted leaders who are willing to

serve in the role of administration at

Lutheran schools.

year of college, that they would find

Christian friends and make good

decisions while living away from

home for the first time.

an empty nest for the first time. Pray

that they would find joy and content-

ment in the midst of life’s changes.

CAMPUS MINISTRY— SEPTEMBER 16–30 The challenges to Christians on our nation’s college campuses are increasing exponentially. On practically every campus, there are objections to the biblical worldview, doctrine, ethics and practices. The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod’s (LCMS) campus-ministry arm, LCMS U, aims to encourage, support and help students, faculty and staff in their response to these challenges so they can boldly bear witness to Christ.

Remember God’s work through LCMS U as you pray:

I want to thank you for choosing St. Andrew Early Childhood Center. It is good to see all of the sweet faces of returning students and it is great meeting new students. Your children are very precious to us and we will do our very best with them. Some love school and the excitement of a fresh new start...a new box of cray-ons, pack of papers, new clothes and a different teacher. Others see the begin-ning of school as “the end”. Just the idea of waking up early, homework, a new teacher and dealing with classmates may cause some children to be anxious and a bit grumpy. Each child is treated as a gift of God. The child’s intellectual, emotional, social, physical and spiritual growth are guided by Christian principles. The child is led to know God as creator and man as a sinner redeemed and forgiven by God for Jesus’ sake. With the help of the Holy Spirit, the staff leads the child into Chris-tian discipline by applying both law and gospel. The children are very happy in their classrooms spending time getting acquaint-ed with one another and doing some bonding. Romans 15:7 says, “Accept one another then, just as Christ accepted you in order to bring Praise to God”. Our teachers are experienced and degreed. They take a minimum of 24 hours of additional Early Childhood training annually. All the staff are also trained in CPR and First Aid.

We Are Off To A Great Start !!!!!!

Tuition is due on the first day of each month or on Mondays, if paying weekly. We Do Not send a bill for tuition, since it is the same amount each month. The account will be past due after Wednesday, if you are paying weekly or the 5th if you are paying monthly and is subject to a late fee ($10 weekly, $20 monthly). If an account is more than two weeks past due the child at the discretion of the director and /or Pastor, may be asked not to return to class until the account is current. A charge of $25 will be assessed on all returned checks. An excessive number of returned checks is ground for terminating care at the Center.

Tuition is not reduced for absences. The following classes are offered with extra charge: Tuesday: Ballet/Tap Friday: Soccer Sign in and out daily, please include the time. Welcome to our new angels in the Infant Class Bobby Romeo Cruz, Jerry Ballard and Asher Moore. It is a joy having them in our little school and they have already captured our hearts. Be sure to check your child’s cubby EVERY afternoon for any items that need to go home with you that are from the teacher or the school office. We ask that you take pillows and blankets home on Friday to launder. Please send an extra change of clothing (full set, socks and underwear) in your child’s bag daily, regardless of the child’s age. Good jewelry should be left at home. No open toed shoes are permissible. Socks are always to be worn. Please label all clothing and blankets. You are Invited-beginning Wednesday, September 6th to St. Andrew Church for Christian fellowship and Bible Study. The evening begins at 5:45 p.m. with a delicious dinner. Please join us!!! Chapel every Tuesday Morning Parents are always welcome to attend chapel with their child and staff on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m.
