Naziema Jappie attended the

GAPS Learning and Connecting

Symposium in Brazil this month.

She had this to say about it:

“The aim of the GAPS Symposium

was to bring together experts,

practitioners, activist leaders and

higher education decision makers

to link various efforts tackling the

challenge of improving and

broadening access and success in

post-secondary education; bring-

ing more inclusiveness into the

definition of academic excellence

and ensuring that all students

benefit from exposure to global

learning.

It is recognized there are different approaches and interpretations of the three key topics of access, inclusive educa-

tion and global Learning. Furthermore, contextual realities in different parts of the world clearly influence how higher

education institutions act on these issues, what arguments they use to build the case for transforming higher educa-

tion in the direction of being more inclusive, more globally attuned and more responsible the success of all learners

including those who are frequently less well-represented in higher education.”

Workshops and Conferences

Robert Prince, Sanet Steyn, Pragashni Padayachee, and Darlington Mutakwa attended the Universities South Africa

(USAf) National Benchmark Tests Consultative Workshop on the 13th of November. The objective was to share infor-

mation on student profiles and curriculum interventions, provide general information on the NBTs, and to share re-

sults of research and correlations.

The programme included an interactive session called “The NBTs and institutional practic-

es: what the NBTs convey”, in which the CETAP team presented NBT usage scenarios and

invited participants to discuss possible uses of the NBTs and outcomes.

The workshop ended with a Q & A session on the NBTs.

Robert Prince gave a talk at the USAf Education Deans’ Forum on the 10th November,

on the National Benchmark Tests data trends of prospective education students.
