Naming Conventions

■ Product names

Oracle Solaris might be described as Solaris, Solaris Operating System, or Solaris OS.

■ Other names

• Italics are used to show variables such as values and characters that appear in command parameters and output examples.

• "SAS card" refers to the SAS interface module normally used in the server. A "Host Bus Adapter" (HBA) or "Channel Adapter" (CA) may be used instead, depending on the server.

Chapter 3 Notes

P

3.1 Server Startup and Power Supply Control Notes

Before turning the server on, check that the ETERNUS Disk storage systems are all "Ready".If the server is turned on and they are not "Ready", the server will not be able to recognize theETERNUS Disk storage systems. Also, when the ETERNUS Disk storage system power supply is being controlled by a connectedserver, make sure that the ETERNUS Disk storage system does not shut down before the con-nected servers. If turned off, data writes from the running server cannot be saved to the ETERNUS Disk storagesystems, and already saved data may also be affected.

3.2 ETERNUS Multipath Notes

• ETERNUS Multipath Driver requirements

• Refer to the documentation supplied with each product for installation and setup details.

3.3 MPxIO Notes

• MPxIO requirements

• Host responses must be set for the ETERNUS Disk storage system when it is connected to a server with MPxIO installed.

• Refer to the "Sun StorEdge Traffic Manager Installation and Configuration Guide" on the Oracle web-site (http://www.oracle.com/) for MPxIO setup details.

Chapter 8 Setting Up the Server

P

8.1 For Fujitsu SAS Cards

Set up the server according to the following procedure for a single-path configuration.

Procedure

1 Edit the configuration file.Specify the command queue depth by setting the "max-throttle" parameter of the driverdefinition file (/platform/{sun4v|SUNW,SPARC-Enterprise}/kernel/drv/fjulsa.conf) to "40".

("#:SCSI ID, 40:" shows the number of data transfer requests that can be issued simulta-neously)

2 Save any changes to the configuration file. The configuration file should also be checked for incorrect settings.

3 Execute the following command to reboot the server.

End of procedure

Do not set "max-throttle" for a multipath connection.

target#-max-throttle=40;

# touch /reconfigure# /usr/sbin/shutdown -y -g0 -i6
