the Trident UNITED STATES NAVAL ACADEMY TOP STORIES NASA ROCKET LAUNCHES SATELLITE BUILT BY USNA MIDS A satellite constructed by Naval Academy midshipmen was one of 29 satellites on a rocket launched by NASA from Wallops Island, Va., Nov. 19. Nearly half of the satellites were built by college and high school students from U.S. schools as part of NASA’s CubeSat Launch initiative. The initiative provides opportunities for small satellites to fly as auxiliary payloads on previously planned missions, promoting STEM education and innovative technology partnerships among NASA, industry and other sectors. To participate in the program, student research must address aspects of science, exploration, technology development or education. Security personnel at USNA and Naval Support Activity Annapolis make nightly patrols of the Yard in an effort to combat potential criminal activity and ensure the safety of mids, faculty, staff, and families in the area. MASQUERADERS PERFORM POPULAR PLAYThe Masqueraders’ fall play has come to a close, but you can still share in the entertainment. Watch this video to learn more about the Naval Academy drama group and Oscar Wilde’s satirical play “The Importance of Being Earnest.”

TEEN ROCk CLIMbINGThe Teen Center will host a field trip Dec. 13 to Earth Treks Climbing Gym in Columbia, Md. Eligible teens should be in grades 6 through 12 and should be dependents of active duty service members, DoD civilians or full-time DoD contractors. Cost is $20 per teen and signed parental permission slips are required. Teens should meet at the Billy the Kid Youth Center at 4:30 p.m. for transportation and will return to the Youth Center at approximately 9:30 p.m. Kids should wear athletic clothing and sneakers. LT DAN bAND TICkETSThe LT Dan Band will perform Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. at DAR Constitutional Hall in Washington D.C. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. The concert is sponsored by the United Service Organizations, Inc. (USO) and is free of charge to military and DoD civilian personnel and their guests. A limited number of free General Admission tickets to the event are available on a first-come-first-served basis at the MWR Annapolis ITT Outlet in the MWR Recreation Services Bldg. #89, NSA Annapolis. Valid ID is required. Each customer can receive up to four tickets. Customers are highly encouraged to return any unused tickets to the local ITT office. For more information, call 410-293-9200.
