GENETIC MANAGEMENT SYSTEMUNBIASED, VERIFIED MATINGS

Genetic Management System (GMS) is a genetically proficient, completely unbiased, mating recommendation program. It is delivered by a range of highly qualified global staff, who provide expert support and knowledge to help you to achieve your genetic goals.

GMS enables you to select the best genetics for the right cow, with simple, selective tailoring. It allows you to make better and more accurate breeding decisions for your herd. GMS is the only breeding program that systematically breeds for the same kind of animal model on each individual cow.

GMS ensures that each mating improves the entire animal in line with the herds genetic goals.

THERE ARE TWO WAYS TO RUN THE GMS pROGRAM...

An ABS GMS evaluator will conduct a full linear evaluation on each cow in the herd. Combining the pedigree information and

any milk recording data available, the ideal mate for each cow will be provided.

FULL SCOREDRun the same way as full scored, however

the evaluator does not score the cows. The animals in the herd will get a mating based purely on their pedigree and milk recording data - this can also be used to give a mating for maiden heifers.

Designed for dairy producers who are

looking to achieve higher output and longevity

within an intensive herd management situation.

INTENSIVE

For producers who want trouble-free, long-lasting cows with moderate size.

Dairymen concerned about health and fitness

should consider durability.

DURABILITY

For dairy producers who want cows with smaller stature, more strength, capacity and improved mobility. Best suited to

extended grazing conditions.

GRASSLAND

Based on milk volume; it will increase profits for people on a milk

based contract.

MILk

Best suited for the purpose of showing and marketing high-type cattle. Greater emphasis on a taller and

more dairy frame.

SHOW TYpE

Calving ease protection on both heifers and cows, giving you ease of management.

Herd Percentile Rankings (HPR) provides accurate data on the genetic value of the animal and highlights the animals best suited to your system, giving you an excellent impartial selling and culling guide.

Recessive and halpotype knockout - if a bull has the same recessive gene as the cow, anywhere in her pedigree, then that bull will not be chosen for mating, protecting your herd as well as your pocket.

Simple to use - GMS makes breeding each cow easier, by removing the decision making aspect of the process. You will get a clear best mating for each cow.

It delivers completely unbiased mating options with no favouritism to any specific bull.

GMS is the only program that provides seven generations of inbreeding protection, something which is integral in modern day pedigrees.

CHEESE MER ITMeasures the expected

lifetime profit of the offspring putting a greater

emphasis on fat and protein, excellent for producers selling milk to a cheese market.

Measures the expected profit that the offspring of an animal will provide over its lifetime. It also considers udder health, productive life, daughter pregnancy rate, alongside

fat and protein.

In the past, before our herd expansion we would have fewer cows bulling over the week. It was possible to give the time it took to study pedigrees and try to match cows with suitable bulls we had in the AI flask.

The big difference now is we have efficient DIY AI personnel that have no interest in cows or pedigrees but can still match a bull with a cow to produce the type of animal we wish to work with in the future because they are all working off the GMS sheets. Moreover, the animal should be healthier and more capable of producing the volume and quality of milk we expect of our cows today and over a longer period of time. This is due to the way heifers and cows are scored and how they are screened for inbreeding over multiple generations.

In my mind GMS saves you money because the computer is not drawn to the most expensive bulls that look the best in the brochure. It draws out the bull that best suits each individual mating to produce what you want in your cows of the future. For me, it is a no-brainer!”

“The main reason for starting to use GMS at Meldrum was a simple one, I think it is a great management tool, and we need as many of them as we can get in todays dairy industry.

ADAM SILLS, RODSLEY HOLSTEINS, MILkING 250 COWS - GMS HERD SINCE 2010

“I should have been on GMS years ago. The results that we have seen in our heifers have been excellent. They are very uniform and correct, there has been a much quicker improvement in quality compared to their dams through GMS than I could manage! The current heifer group not only look good but are milking better than ever before and I would put this down to the program and the expertise of our evaluator. One thing that I have been concerned about in recent years is the rising level of inbreeding in the herd, but thankfully GMS takes all of this into account when making the breeding decisions.” Sills Partners, Rodsley Holsteins

COMpREHENSIVE REpORTSBENCHMARkING MADE EASY

The overall herd analysis sets GMS apart from other mating programs. The reports that are generated enable you to monitor your herds progress against other lactations. They also highlight the future progress that GMS can generate.

Health and Fitness AuditThis highlights the relevant health trait averages for somatic cell score, daughter pregnancy rate and productive life.

Production AuditThis audit illustrates the NM$ and production differences between past and present genetics.

Type AuditUsing the type audit makes it very easy to benchmark the sires used on PTAT, feet and legs and udder composites.

Inbreeding ReportThis graph enables you to see the average level of inbreeding that you have in your herd and also the average inbreeding level you will receive with the first choice GMS mating recommendation.

Mating Recommendation SheetsYou of course also get the mating recommendation sheets, which includes all cows in the herd ranked in numerical order with a first, second and possible third choice matings. This also includes their unique HPR ranking.
