Descriptive Annex 1 INTRODUCTION The W23 and C Series comprises the weighing module (A/D board) of a BPS indicator (model) and a main PCB connected to a range of load cells to form a family of Class III, mains or I/O line powered, or battery-operated, self-indicating, dual-interval, non-automatic weighing instruments. The constructions are shown in Figures 1 and 2.

The instrument is intended to be used for direct sales to the public when connected to a Point of Sale device.

2 DESCRIPTION

2.1 Construction

2.1.1 Main features

− Alloy metal construction − Stainless Steel load receptor − Integral LCD display − No operator keypad for W23 model − Operator keypad with 4 keys for C models − LCD/LED enunciators (STABLE, ZERO and NET) − Level indicator − Adjustable feet

2.1.2 Devices

The instrument may be fitted with the following devices:

− Initial zero setting device (≤ 20% of Max) − Semi-automatic zero setting device (≤ 4% of Max) for C models − Zero tracking (optional) (≤ 4% Max) − Stable weight indicator − Semi-automatic additive or subtractive tare balancing (T = ± Max1) − Tare indicating − Gravity compensation

2.2 Operation

2.2.1 Switch-on

At switch-on, a display test is performed to ensure that the display has no defect.

2.2.2 Zero-tracking

Zero tracking operates provided that the instrument is within range of not more than 4% of its capacity.

2.2.3 Semi-automatic zero setting For C models, the zero button operates provided that the instrument is within range of not more than 4% of its capacity.

2.2.4 Over-range and under-range

If the load is less than gross zero, then the display shows a “-” sign before the value. The instrument prevents weight indications below -20d.

The instruments may be set to display weight up to nine divisions above Max. At greater loads the display is flashing accompany with warning sound.

2.2.5 Tare

Semi-automatic additive/subtractive tare balancing can be performed; the net indicator is on when a tare is active. The maximum tare is less than or equal to Max1 for dual-interval instruments. Above the limit the display will show “T-Err”.

3.1 Rated operating conditions

Technical data for the weighing module (A/D board) is provided in section 3.1 of Parts (Test) Certificate GB-1626.

The instrument is mains-powered or powered via I/O line with 5V VDC.

The instrument is also fitted with an integrated rechargeable 5 V, 4.0 Ah battery. The battery can be recharged during operation.

3.2 Software

The software is held in firmware on the circuit board, and has the identification number V02.xx, with xx reflecting non-legally relevant changes. The software version number is displayed at power-up.

Access to the legally relevant parameters and download of software is only possible via the calibration switch on the main board. Access to this calibration switch is prevented by sealing the enclosure (Section 6.2).

3.3 Documentation and drawings

The instrument is fully described in the technical file held at NMO.

3.4 Load cell Any compatible load cell(s) may be used providing the following conditions are met:

− There is a respective OIML Certificate of Conformity (R60) or a Parts (Test) certificate (EN 45501) issued for the load cell by a Notified Body responsible for type examination under Directive 2014/31/EU.

− The certificate contains the load cell types and the necessary load cell data required for the manufacturer’s declaration of compatibility of modules

(WELMEC 2, 2015, No 10), and any particular installation requirements. A load cell marked NH is allowed only if humidity testing to EN 45501 has been conducted on this load cell.

− The compatibility of the load cells and indicator is established by the manufacturer by means of the compatibility of modules calculation, contained in the above WELMEC 2 document, at the time of verification or declaration of EU conformity of type.

− The load cell transmission must conform to one of the examples shown in the WELMEC Guide 2.4, “Guide for Load cells”.

Alternatively, the instruments may be fitted with one of the following ZEMIC load cells, model L6D:

Max (kg) 15/30 Min (g) 100 e = (g) 5/10 T ≤ (kg) - 14.995

Load cell Emax (kg) 40 4 PERIPHERAL DEVICES AND INTERFACES
