Setting boundaries fosters healthy relationships

Published on 1/25/2016 We create boundaries to keep our lives in order, for example many adults separate personal and professional relationships. Trusted adults can help teach children to do the same. Boundaries are essential in the foundation of relationships, and children should be comfortable expressing where they draw their own lines. “No means no” is easy to say in theory, but it should be respected in practice by your kids and their friends, teachers and other adults. Teach your kids how to explore their own comfort zones and give them time to tell you about their experiences. Open communication helps them understand that setting bounda-ries is part of life. ¿SABIA USTED?

San Gabriel Mission Elementary School

An Easter Blessing From Mission Elementary Celebrating St. Joseph’s Feast Day

Dear Parishioners,

Happy Easter!

The students and staff of San Gabriel Mission Elementary School have experi- enced a blessed Lenten Season. Each morning we have recalled one of the fourteen Stations of the Cross to keep us focused on the meaning of Lent. The Student Council made a paper tree in our hallway where students placed leaves with their commitments for this season. One day each week classes made trips to the Old Mission or the Mission Gardens to pray the Way of the Cross. Our seventh and kindergarten classes prepared a special liturgy for the fathers in the lives of our student’s as we came together for Mass to celebrate the Feast Day of St. Joseph.

On Palm Sunday our students dramatized the Passion at the 11:15 am Mass with the parish community. During Holy Week our eighth graders depicted the Living Way of the Cross, and our third graders reenacted the Last Supper in the Parish Center on Holy Thursday.

Thank you for the support that makes it possible for our children to receive a Catholic education. Through the prayers and support of our school, our students have the opportunity to grow in their relationship with God. May God bless you all. Gratefully,

Sister Sharon and the Mission Elementary School Community

FAITH FORMATION CORNER – THOUGHTS TO PONDER,WAYS TO

LIVE

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:5

Jesus is risen, Alleluia! Easter Sunday reminds us that there is no permanent darkness, there is always light and life in knowing, loving and following Jesus. Yet after the spiritual renewal of Len,t and the joyous celebration of Jesus and His saving love, we return to the world and the world is still a weary place. The news still reports violence, nations war, politicians name-call, and our personal lives are often messy. Too often the joy of Easter Sunday lasts only until Monday. But consider this: despite all the apparent darkness and strug-gles, there is still light and joy in the world, and the mere existence of darkness doesn’t diminish or disqualify the pow-er of the light. Choosing to love and experience joy is a discipline. It’s about training your eyes and heart to see the light in the darkness and to regularly celebrate what you see and to contribute to the light! This is one of the goals of Lent, to be transformed and made new. And the transformation is often best made by changing your perspective and opening your heart to God and helping make manifest His kingdom now, as Jesus taught. The Lord has made us to be joyful and showed us the way out of the darkness. Remember, “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Ps 118:24 Happy Easter, and more importantly, Happy Life in Christ.
