  • Raised platforms set as a stage

18. The back of the stage has many different paintings, each with great detail, most of the paintings are of animals. 19. On stage, dogs lined up as if they are the show. 20. Large box with shiny objects, looks to be a musical device. 21. On the far right side of the picture is a man who is working for the circus, showing a some of the backstage work. 22. People in front of the stage are bustling around and observing the action on stage. 23. The photo is outside as seen by the trees behind the stage. Description
24.

  • The photos main focus is the animals on stage.

25. Lines direct a persons eye towards the the stage and ultimately on the animals. 26. When you look at the people in the crowd you follow their line of sight towards the animals on stage, creating movement. 27. As a documentary photographer Atget did not take that many photographs as they were snapshot. 28. Being mostly unplanned Atgets photos did not necessarily have all of the principles and elements of art. Analysis
29.

  • In Atgets documentary style he captures the true essence of this animal circus. Showing the viewer the real France

30. Shows how on a nice day children and adults alike take pleasure in seeing the animals perform at their best. 31. The animals happily sit while being viewed by the audience. 32. He positions the camera so that both the stage and the audience can be seen. By doing this the viewer can see both how the people react and what the animals are doing. 33. Also Atget captures a crewmember working backstage showing not only the show but what makes it run. Interpretation
34.

  • Captures what the people of France do on a nice day.

35. I think this photo is great not only showing the audience and the the animals, but a crewmember too working backstage. 36. Looks like a contemporary snapshot that has been tinted, not from around the 1900s 37. Atget captures the real animal circus not just the glitz and the glam seen by the many but the shows different aspects. 38. The different elements come together together to make the photo seem less put together and more organic to its place and time.Judgment
39. Atget and the real France
His inspiration came from his worry of what might happen if he did not take the pictures. Atget purposely did not make his pictures perfect. He wished to capture the real and untouched parts of France. When asked about his work Atget usually said that he has not done enough justice for France and that he has done only a little. Atget was a great photographer who captured the authenticity of France.
