When taking his picture Atget used a plate camera set on a tripod, with a slightly wide angle. He used contact printing and typically a gold toned paper

7. Atget and the real France
Eugene Atget began his life as an orphan and was raised by his uncle. When he was older his passion for the workingman grew. He feared for the work people did and that it may be lost in the future. After he finished school he dabbled for a few years until he found in true calling in photography.

12. Atget and the real France
Atget wanted to capture the true sights of France. He called his photos documents showing his passion for taking pictures only of what was true or real. With many of his pictures having no people in them Atget only wished to take pictures of the organic beauty surrounding him.

18. The back of the stage has many different paintings, each with great detail, most of the paintings are of animals. 19. On stage, dogs lined up as if they are the show. 20. The photos main focus is the animals on stage.

25. Lines direct a persons eye towards the the stage and ultimately on the animals. 26. When you look at the people in the crowd you follow their line of sight towards the animals on stage, creating movement. 27. As a documentary photographer Atget did not take that many photographs as they were snapshot. 28. Looks like a contemporary snapshot that has been tinted, not from around the 1900s 37. Atget captures the real animal circus not just the glitz and the glam seen by the many but the shows different aspects. 38. The different elements come together together to make the photo seem less put together and more organic to its place and time.Judgment

His inspiration came from his worry of what might happen if he did not take the pictures. Atget purposely did not make his pictures perfect. He wished to capture the real and untouched parts of France. When asked about his work Atget usually said that he has not done enough justice for France and that he has done only a little. Atget was a great photographer who captured the authenticity of France.
