Customer service

Quality, reliability and flexibility are

the key values of the business.

This is firstly demonstrated by the

Euro Grass breeding programme

which is the basis for improving

the quality of turf amenity varie-

ties for all sectors of our industry.

Secondly, reliable seed production,

processing and logistics, lead by

quality management and backed

by highly skilled staff is crucial to

our customers. Finally, our aim

is to be flexible by identifying our

customer's needs.

The Euro Grass Organisation

Euro Grass is a relatively new

company with old traditions. The

structure of the Euro Grass organi-

sation was established in 2002. At

that time the shares of the Dutch

breeding and production company

Zelder B.V. were acquired by Deut-

sche Saatveredelung AG (DSV),

Germany and Hunsballe Fro A/S,

Denmark who had already been in

close co-operation for almost three

decades.

By combining the strengths of

these partners, a powerful breed-

ing and seed multiplication network

was set up on a large European

scale. Euro Grass stands for ef-

ficiency in breeding, production,

sales, logistic and service to meet

the customers´ requirements on a

worldwide scale.

In Europe Lolium perenne (perennial ryegrass),

Festuca rubra (red fescue), Poa pratensis

(smooth-stalked meadow-grass) and Festuca

arundinacea (tall fescue) are the most impor-

tant turf species. The botanical characteristics

of these species, plus a number of otherwise

important species, can be found in the tables

“Botanical characteristics of grass species for

turf use” and “Overview of botanical charac-

teristics”.

8 Development of varieties

Euro Grass has at our disposal

more than 100 high quality and

listed turf grass varieties widely spread across the species. For more

information on our turf grass varieties please consult our image brochure/

variety catalogue, our variety sheets and various national turf grass lists.

Euro Grass turf varieties

Development of varietiesThe development of turf varieties is a long-term, costly and highly sophis-

ticated business. Plant breeding (crossing, selecting and conducting trials)

often takes a decade or more before varieties are ready for release into

official registration. Subsequently investment in production, stock-holding

and marketing is expensive.

Page 9: Euro Grass Amenity Grass Seed Mixtures · ing and seed multiplication network was set up on a large European scale. Euro Grass stands for ef-ficiency in breeding, production, sales,

The Euro Grass standard mixtures are split into 7 groups: “Classic’’,

“Ornamental’’, “Shade’’, “Sports’’, “Renovation’’, “Golf’’ and “Special Use’’.

We are also able to provide a special mixture service along with professional

advice on the most appropriate combinations of species and varieties.

The Mixture Range

It is a fact that well composed mixtures will withstand pests, diseases and out

compete weeds better than individual varieties or narrow mixtures.

Euro Grass Amenity Grass Seed Mixtures

• Time of year (Seasonal temperatures and rainfall)

• Local conditions (Sun,shade,irrigation)

• Soil conditions (Soil texture & structure, fertility)

• Purpose of use (Sports, lawns, landscaping etc.)

• Maintenance (Level desired or possible by end user)

Species and varieties are carefully selected for their different characteristic to

formulate seed mixtures for a wide range of applications. The important consid-

erations when compiling mixtures are:

10 Amenity mixtures

EGB110 General Landscaping “A” A universal mixture with emphasis on perennial ryegrass for rapid establishment.

• Rapid establishment • Attractive sward• Good ground cover

EGB120 General Landscaping “B” A universal mixture, with balanced perennial ryegrass and red fescue for rapid establishment and improved soil binding capacity.

• Rapid establishment • Stabilises soil on embankments• Good ground cover

EGB130 Hard Wearing | Dry Soils A mixture of drought tolerant species with excellent rooting capabilities and hard wearing characteristics, for areas prone to drought and subject to higher levels of wear.

• Drought tolerant • Reduced mowing• Good ground cover • Suitable for Grasscrete type systems

EGB140 Reduced Cutting Fescue A mixture designed with the emphasis on a high level of fescue for lower green matter production but combining a smaller proportion of slow re-growth perennial ryegrass for initial fast greening up and ground cover. Particularly useful for open parkland areas where mowing costs and green matter dis-posal need to be kept to a minimum.

• Slow Re-growth • Reduced mowing• Fast establishment • Suitable for expansive area

EGB160 Reduced Cutting Ryegrass An industry standard low maintenance mixture formulated for end users who require greater wear tolerance but with a reduced cutting requirement. The slow re-growth characteristics of Turfgold perennial ryegrass combined with Libano slender creeping red fescues’ wear tolerance makes this an outstanding mixture.

• Slow Re-growth • Reduced mowing• Fast establishment • Wear tolerant

Classic Mixtures

“Classic” is designed for general purpose lawns and landscaping where an economy option is required. The

mixtures are fast to establish but offers reduced cutting maintenance. “Classic” is suitable for most site condi-

tions and in situation of average wear intensity.

EGB210 Drought Lawns & Landscapes A mixture designed for a broad spectrum of use where a high quality finish and performance is required. The combination of species makes this mixture suitable for lawns, golf tees, camp sites and general landscaping areas.

• Hard wearing • Quick recovery from damage• Fast establishment • Suitable for golf tees, campsites & lawns

EGB240 All FescueA fine textured mixture that provides a very dense ground cover. Fescues have the characteristic of directing their energy in root and leaf density rather than height of growth. This means they have a very much reduced biomass output lending themselves to lower cutting costs and biomass disposal.

• Fine textured • Dense ground cover• Low biomass production • Suitable for golf fairways and ornamental lawns

EGB250 Low Maintenance Parkland This mixture is suitable for creating a natural appearance with minimal cutting. It is adaptable to a range of soil types and cutting heights and compatible to young tree plantings.

• Drought tolerant • Low nutrient requirement• Natural appearance • Suitable for golf roughs, parklands and conservation

areas

EGB260 Lawns & Landscaping (No Ryegrass) A broad spectrum species and variety mixture designed with quality and all-round performance in mind. The inclusion of Linares smooth stalked meadow grass provides a fine textured, soil stabilising and drought tolerant component.

• Broad spectrum use • Dense ground cover• Drought tolerant • Suitable for golf fairways, lawns and parklands

EGB310 Shade (Moist areas)A mixture which is ideal on moisture retentive soils under varying degrees of shade, from trees or buildings. To avoid stressing grass in shaded areas, avoid cutting too closely and combine seeding work with the use of a fertiliser especially in tree areas. • Shade tolerant • Dense ground cover• Easy to establish • Suitable under trees and building shade

EGB320 Shade (Dry areas)A simple but effective mixture for dry shaded areas. The deep rooting attri-butes of tall fescue enable this mixture to tolerate the driest of conditions. To avoid stressing grass in shaded areas, avoid cutting too closely and combine seeding work with the use of a fertiliser especially in tree areas. • Shade tolerant • Dense ground cover• Drought tolerant • Suitable under trees and building shade
