The importance of Adult Education
In order to
address current and future socio-economic, demographic, and technological challenges currently faced by the European citizens today and in the years ahead and
increase participation in adult learning
the Council of Ministers (29 November 2011) adopted the Renewed European Agenda for Adult Learning.
What brings us here: Renewed European Agenda for Adult Learning 2012-14
The Resolution encourages the participating countries to take concrete steps to enhance, intensify and coordinate policies on adult learning and in particular to offer low qualified adults a "second chance" to go "one step up" in their qualification level.

• Inform adults about their right for full and equal participation in education throughout their lives
• Inform adults about the education and training opportunities that are available in Cyprus, with an emphasis on those coming from disadvantaged social groups

• Improve the quality of the adult teaching staff, mainly those who teach adults coming from vulnerable social groups
• Enhance the cooperation and collaboration of the main stakeholders that are activated in the field of adult education
• Promote participation of various stakeholders to national and European initiatives

Aims of the Action Plan of Cyprus(3)
•Notify the main messages that derive from major researchers in the area of adult education eg. Adult Education Survey and PIAAC (Programme for the International Assessment of Adult of Competencies) in cooperation with the relevant organizations.
