Priorities addressed• Open and innovative education, training

and youth work, embedded in the digital era

• Transparency and recognition of skills and qualifications to facilitate learning, employability and labour mobility

• Access to training and qualifications for all through C-VET

Opening Up. Challenges for organizations

• organizational change• curriculum opening up through:

– Open Educational Resources– Massive open online courses– open collaboration and communication among teachers

and learners– opening and creating innovative education services for

diverse learning groups– recognition and validation of non-formal open learning

Project scope• Addressing objectives of "Opening Up“• Implementing recommendations of EC JRC research study

on “Validation of Non-formal MOOC – based Learning” (2016) by– establishing validated open learning practices – offering learner credentials for online and open learning

(OOL) curriculum:• verification of learner identity• setting learning agreement and other instruments

– establishing digital badges for recognition of learning achievements

– establishing collaboration with institutions to provide transparent information on potential recognition of OOL

– providing T&T with the tools for OOL development and recognition

Project targets• The project targets at collaboration of C-VET,

lifelong learning, higher education (HE) institutions and companies trough international, inter-sectorial collaboration to enhance access to OOL and qualifications for all through C-VET

• Teachers and trainers (T&T) at C-VET, lifelong learning, adult learning, HE and companies are the key target group of the project

Aim and objectivesReOPEN project aims to create instruments to develop validated OOL for recognition of prior and non-formal learning. The aim will be reached through the following objectives:1. To design a platform for non-formal open

learning curriculum (e.g. MOOC) development with learning validation and recognition instruments in place:

a) learner credentialsb) digital badgesc) learning path recognition and assessment tools

Aim and objectives2. To train T&T at C-VET organizations, companies,

HE institutions and adult learning organizations to:

a) design validated non-formal open learning curriculum (e.g. MOOC or other)

b) apply of digital badges as a new form of digital credentialisation and tracking one’s learning path in non-formal open learning

c) recognize non-formal open learning results in formal curricular

Page 11: European Distance Learning Week: "Designing open and non-formal curriculum for recognition. ReOPEN project approach”

Aim and objectives3. To exploit the new platform and to design non-

formal open learning courses for continuous professional staff developing (CPD) applying learning recognition instruments for validated non-formal open learning

4. To establish partnership for future collaboration for non-formal open learning recognition (reviewing curriculum in partner institutions and preparing information on potential recognition of open learning)

Questions pending and issues raised• Recognition of learning results vs recognition of

learning process• Validation of learning results vs validated learning

environment• Recognition of open learning and non-formal

learning in formal learning• Multilateral agreement – among education

providers and companies – on recognition of learning

• Verification of learners in open learning environments vs verification of learners in “traditional” virtual and online learning environments

Questions pending and issues raised• Is it really the learning outcome that we

recognise?• How can we measure recognition of

achievement?• Does verification of learner solve the issue of

assessment? What do we assess?

We look forward to the development of the discussion at ReOPEN Facebook website
