The University of Audiovisual Arts, the European Film, Theatre and Dance Academy Skopje-Paris-Rotterdam-Es-sen, is the first real higher education bridge that connects Macedonia and Europe. The first-generation students, with their exceptional energy, enthusiasm, talent and ar-tistic forms of expression, show that in Macedonia there is a quiet audiovisual revolution in higher education that farewells stereotypes of “controlled past” and creates the future of new artistic and professional reality not only in Macedonia but also in South-East European countries, where one third of our enrolled students come from. One of our neighbours, Archimedes from Sicily, said “Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world”. One of our distant spiritual relatives, Shakespeare, said “All the world’s a stage”. I would like to invite young people from Macedonia and South-East Europe to walk the path of art at our University because even the longest road begins with the first step.

It is your turn now!Action!

The University of Audiovisual Arts, European Film, Theatre and Dance Academy Skopje-Par-is-Rotterdam-Essen was founded in 2007 as the first private University in the field of audio-visual arts in Macedonia.

Mr Jordan Plevnes is the founder of the Uni-versity. He is a famous playwright, novelist and screenwriter. His plays have been performed on all five continents and translated into fifty languages.

Initially, the immediate connection of ESRA with France allowed gaining meaningful expe-rience from The Lumière brothers’ country, as well as our establishment as a serious higher education institution in the field of audiovis-ual arts. Europe, our common home, as Jean Monnet says, has become a field which, with exceptional energy, opened up new horizons for cooperation with one of the oldest uni-versities with exceptional references, such as Folkwang from Essen, Germany, and shortly before that with the exclusive Dance Academy from Rotterdam, Holland. Thus, the adjective

“European” is no longer just a dream, but a re-ality!The very formation of the University of Audio-visual Arts, European Film, Theatre and Dance Academy, Skopje-Paris-Rotterdam-Essen, combines European audiovisual experience with tradition and experience in the Republic of Macedonia and South-Eastern Europe. It is especially important to mention the introduc-tion of several departments of audiovisual are-as which students have had no opportunity to study at universities or academies in Macedo-nia or countries in the region.

University of Audiovisual Arts carries out ed-ucational activity and offers first-cycle studies upon whose completion, the student acquires 180 ECTS credits and shall be awarded respec-tive degree, i.e. BA (Bachelor of Arts). Upon completion of the second cycle of academic studies and having acquired from 60 to 120 ECTS credits (the total number of credits ac-quired in the first and the second cycle of stud-ies shall comprise 300 credits), the student is awarded the degree MA (Master of Arts).

Our University is an opportunity for a European diploma

ARTS

Every act of a man is a reflection of their deepest desires and feelings. “To feel good” is an inner drive that our heart has to follow. And

it just so happens no matter whether one has earned a million dollars today, or has stretched

themselves out on the bed after a nice dream or made their dream a reality by dealing pro-

fessionally with film art.

We, people who come from the world of the film, can understand that!

DEPARTMENT OF ACTINGStudies in Acting provide the students with intellectual and creative capacity, crucial for develop-ment of the talent that each student and future actor possesses. Through these studies, students explore themselves, their personal potential, personal interests, in order to achieve high profes-sionalism and discipline required to achieve a career in acting.

Studies in Dramaturgy include preparing the student for writing film and television scripts, theatre texts, radio plays, as well as writing film and theatre reviews. In fact, these studies do not only make students masters of dramaturgy, but they also help students develop a critical spirit towards the reality that surrounds us. “It makes me happy to know that from now on many young future professionals will be edu-cated at our University. One thought guides me; you are nothing if you cannot give what you have to anyone. Today, we build a temple to one of the world’s most noble occupations, the only ones that are greater than the time and the ones that immortalize the mo-ment.”

DEPARTMENT OF ANIMATIONWith the establishment of the University of Audiovisual Arts in Macedonia, studies in 3D Animation are available for the first time, so that Macedonian higher education has joined the latest audiovis-ual trends. The animation, which has entered through the wide gate into the film industry, makes big profits today, such as the feature film has never reached. It is especially important to mention that the knowledge acquired at this department of the University of Audiovisual Arts is interna-tionally applicable. In Macedonia, there is a significant shortage of skilled professionals in this field, which results in hiring experts from neighbouring countries.

DEPARTMENT OF COSTUME DESIGN

DEPARTMENT OF PHOTOGRAPHYStudies in Photography are another exclusivity at the University of Audiovisual Arts as a depart-ment first of its kind in the Republic of Macedonia. The widespread use of photography as a medi-um provides a wide field of professional accomplishment. That is the reason for the massive interest in the field of visual media, which offers prospective students a creative, dynamic, provocative pro-fessional career. But photography, just as art in general, requires great and deep daily dedication. Or, as they say, art is not a profession, it is a way of life.

Studying Costume Design is one of the University’s exclusivities, where set costume (film and thea-tre costumes) has been studied as a subspecialty. Costume design is not an isolated dimension that can be studied separately, but it is an integral part of the theatre and cinema. Therefore, in order to have knowledge of set costume, it is inevitable to have knowledge of the movie or the theatre. This is the reason why these studies are interdisciplinary and provide student with fundamental knowl-edge in the field of history and theory of theatre, history and theory of film, directing, dramaturgy, drawing, painting, nude painting, but with a special emphasis on vocational subjects in which film and theatrical mask and makeup are integrated.

• Photography; History of Photography; Technology of Photography; Studio Photography; Digital Post-production; Optics; Psychology; Mask and Makeup; History of Art; Basics of Costume Design; Basics of Set Design; Camera…

• Costume Designing; Cut and Construction of Clothes; Drawing; Painting; Painting Techniques and Sculpting; Theatre Directing; Film and TV Camera; History of Art; Masks and Makeup; Digital Photo Softwares; Fashion Design and Textile Design…

FACULTY OF SOUND PRODUCTION

Each student who studies at an Art School, Acad-emy or College is the rebel with a reason, and each teacher is an equilibrist with the right to make a mistake. The student riots because they have been convicted to creative solitude. On the other hand, the teacher equilibrates between the compulsory programme and the diversity of individuals. Roles are often interchangeable. The teacher, who is usually the creator himself, by nature is rebellious, and the student matures slowly equilibrating between creativity and me-diocrity. All art schools in the world are based upon this unusual and delicate relationship between equilibrist and rebel, with occasional interchange of roles. And the goal is not mutual reconciliation or perfect harmony.

The goal is knowledge and work. Truth and Beauty.
