BOOSTING INNOVATION THROUGH
COMPETITIVE AND MARKET INTELLIGENCE
It’s my pleasure and honor to invite you to our 7th international conference! Looking back at the many conferences and events I have organized, the 2015 ICI conference is set to be a very strong event, equipped with all the ingredients to become our best ever annual conference. I’m proud that we have received many compelling submissions in response to our call for speakers. Unbelievably we have even had to turn down speakers who in previous years I would have pleaded to attend our conference. Expect an unmatched selection of practitioners presenting real-life insights into the essentials of competitive intelligence (CI) strategies and day-to-day operations (see page 11). These stories are sometimes surprising, sometimes de-mystifying, but always interesting, and are hard to find elsewhere. Thanks to my friend and sparring partner Prof Dr. Klaus Solberg-Soilen, once more we’ve been able to organize an academic track as part of our annual conference. This track will highlight the latest developments and perspectives from the scientific field. The aim is for academics to enjoy these enriching presentations, while encouraging practitioners to get involved: the future of CI might very well be reflected in the work that is carried out today in the scientific field (see pages 8/9). Another highlight of the conference is the vendor exhibition area. Software and services for a niche market such as CI are a rare breed.
WELCOME TO OUR CONFERENCE!
We are therefore grateful that several leading vendors will be exhibiting at the conference and joining in the presentations (see page 12)! Take your time to check out their state-of-the-art offerings! I learned from people who have attended our conferences in the past that networking at our conference is very special. We seem to have the right number of participants, making it easier to link up with enough high-caliber contacts. Our conferences are not too big, so you don’t get lost in an anonymous crowd of individuals. I can fully echo this sentiment. ICI conferences are always a family get-together for me! Many ICI alumni will be there as well as ICI’s faculty and representatives! Strasbourg is a tranquil, yet vibrant dream city (see page 14/15) – it brings back fond memories of my previous trips and moments spent enjoying the delicious Flammkuchen and magnificent wine. But the Alsace region itself justifies several extra days for any trip. There are great transport links to Strasbourg, which is very much at the heart of Europe (see page 3)! See you soon at the conference (you’ll find the registration information on page 13)!

WHY DO YOU NEED COMPETITIVE/MARKET
INTELLIGENCE?
BOOSTING INNOVATION THROUGH COMPETITIVE/MARKET
INTELLIGENCE
WHAT IS COMPETITIVE/MARKET
INTELLIGENCE?
Companies and markets are now more than ever subject to rapid change when it comes to products and competitors. A company’s ability to generate competitive advantage through its own «Competitive Intelligence» capabilities has now become a prerequisite for survival, since a management decision can only be as good as the information it is based upon.
«Competitive Intelligence» (CI) can be described as a systematic process of information retrieval and analysis, in which fragmented (raw) information on markets, competitors and technologies can be transformed into a vivid understanding of the corporate environment for the decision maker. Market intelligence is used synonymously. Topics are usually future-oriented statements on competitive positioning, intentions and strategies. Obviously, intelligence is of immediate particular importance for tasks concerning strategy or corporate development. In numerous other corporate divisions, knowledge of competitive/market intelligence can also be used to support tactical decisions.
How can competitive intelligence and market intelligence (CI/MI) help companies stay ahead of innovation? The interdisciplinary nature of innovation implies that it is not sufficient to simply master research within your own domain. Leading researchers combine state-of-the-art know-how from different domains into interdisciplinary research networks. Competitive and market intelligence can effectively support innovation management by continuously monitoring, collecting and assessing useful knowledge from outside the company. Out-of-the-box thinking techniques can drive creativity within the organization. CI/MI also offers tools to identify and assess the market demand and the competitive advantage of potential innovations at an early stage.
More than 30 international presenters from Austria, Brazil, Germany, France, India, Mozambique, Poland, Israel, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine, United Kingdom and the USA provide a unique learning environment 3 parallel tracks with presentations from practitioners, academics and vendors 8 interactive pre- and post- conference workshops Leading vendor exhibition during the conference Sufficient time for networking with peers A historic but modern equipped venue will allow you to fully immerse yourself in the conference Strasbourg is convenient to access by air (international airport), train and car The conference organizer, the Institute for Competitive Intelligence, is 100% dedicated to this discipline and is well-known for its high-quality offerings A recommendation rate of 97% from previous participants A reasonably priced, high-quality, inspiring conference experience that nobody should miss!
It has been a delight to attend this ICI conference. There were great opportunities to share information and knowledge with qualified people on a subject so specific as competitive intelligence.
