The EuroPHit Project

With the EnerPHit Standard as the goal and Passive House

principles as the basis, EuroPHit applies knowledge on deep

energy retrofits to the oft+overlooked yet critical area of step+by+

step refurbishments

Page 8: EuroPHit...on progress NZEB –All new public buildings NZEB !MS report EPBD –Application between 9/01/2013 and 9/07/2013 EED –National implementation EPBD –MS updated list of

Criteria and certification scheme for retrofits aiming for the

EnerPHit Standard of the course of years

Financing models and market incentive programmes tailored to

step+by+step retrofits

Design concepts and sound guidelines for the development of

suitable, high performance building components

Specific energy balance tools for gradual energy retrofits

Training materials and workshops focusing on the specific needs

of step+by+step refurbishment

Building case studies showing the way towards an increasingly

high quality, energy efficient building stock.

Boundary

conditions:+5°C; 20°C

Existing situation:

Uninsulated with new windows

• temperature of key surfaces = 9°C

• problem areas behind furniture, in corners and at lintel

• internal relative humidity must be less than 38% to avoid mould growth

Page 12: EuroPHit...on progress NZEB –All new public buildings NZEB !MS report EPBD –Application between 9/01/2013 and 9/07/2013 EED –National implementation EPBD –MS updated list of

EnerPHit retrofit:

20cm insulation + PH windows

• temperature of key surfaces greater than 16°C

• no mould problems, even behind furniture!

• internal relative humidity can reach 62% without fear of mould growth

Boundary

conditions:

+5°C; 20°C

airtight film

You can achieve the same airtightness in a retrofit as you

can in Passive House new builds!

Ventilation is key

Ventilation always makes sense: when you remove humidity, you

lower the risk of moisture damage!

• an old building may have more remaining thermal bridges

• a retrofit will become much more airtight upon installing new windows

• occupants are not used to opening windows regularly

• if you install a ventilation system, use an efficient one!

An issue of economy

Annual paymentsThe annuity method

• Initial costs: €106/m² – €20/m² for

removal of old plaster

• Loan taken at 2.5% interest

• Payments over 30 years at 4.8%

per year (interest + principle)

• Total costs: €3.86 / m² and year

• Total savings: €6.79 / m² and year

n in heating

• Total profits: €2.93 / m² and year

Result: an 8% tax free annual cash return

Example: investing in ETHICS

Guaranteed, risk6free and

tax6free

return of 4 to 15% annually

for 30 years!

Attractive at current energyprices
