Quentin Bryce, Governor-General of Australia, visited Ewha campus on Feb. 26.
Governor Bryce visited Ewha to attend the “NAME OF EVENT long long long long ” with President Kim Sun-uk and women leaders, which was later followed by a short interview session.
“I am very happy to be here at Ewha today, and I enjoyed greatly the discussion with high profile Korean women ,” Bryce sa id . “Furthermore, as education is the most significant achievement of the women working in Australia, it is a particular honor for me to be here at this distinguished university which has grown, developed and educated the women first of this country.”
At the interview, Bryce addressed her perspectives on what it means to
be a woman in society. She also shared personal details
as not only a Governor-General, but also as a mother of five.
“I think balance between work
and family is a very serious issue for women,” Bryce said. “Dialogue with men is also important as it is not fair for women to be burdened with too many responsibilities.”
Bryce also added her prospective for Korean women who are not as active in society as those in Australia.
“[The situation] will change,” Bryce said. “I have seen the strength, talents and abilities of outstanding women here in Korea. I am very confident that there will be more women in various fields.”
When faced with a glass ceiling, Bryce says that asking for support is important.
“[Support] is what the women’s movement has been about; that is what the sisterhood and solidarity mean,” Bryce said.

The decision earned the consent o f a l l members inc luding s ix Ewha officials and four student representatives present at the 5th Tuition Review Committee meeting held on Jan. 23.
The decision was reached as means to relieve students’ and their partents’ financial burden in today’s economically pressing time.
Ewha had stabilized its tuition for three years since 2009, reduced the tuition by 3.5 percent in 2012, and further by 1.5 percent this year. The Ewha Womans University Library reopened on March 2 after renovations were finished. The first floor and the basement had changes made in both their floor structures and facilities.
During the renovation, several rooms were changed to open up more space and thus accommodate more student users. On the first floor, Reading Room 4 was turned into a Laptop Computer Room, the old Laptop Computer Room into a Group Audio Visual Room, and the former Reading Room 3 and PC Lab into a new Lounge for students to rest in.
The basement also had changes in the reading rooms and cafeteria. Reading Room 2 was turned into a PC Lab, Reading Room 1 was renovated to comply with more students since Reading Rooms 2, 3, and 4 were turned into other
facilities, and the cafeteria has equipped new facilities for the greater convenience of students.
The library also installed new digital lockers and seminar rooms.
“The renovation was planned several years ago, and we have been continuously requesting it due to the lack of space and deterioration of the facilities,” said an official from the library who wished to remain anonymous.
“Also, a place for students to communicate, rest and enjoy their leisure activity, and additional rooms for them were much needed. We hope that the library will be a place for education, scholarship and culture.”
The Ewha Womans University Library is currently requesting new building and additional renovations on the second to fifth floors, but no details are available yet as the request is still in process.
