PART 2. UTAH B81Development and production.-The only known productive prop-

erty is the Queen of Sheba, but several other mines and prospectsare in the range and its foothills to the southwest. The district wasorganized in 1891, and the Queen of Sheba produced gold ore inter-mittently until at least 1920, a total of $40,000 worth. Thirty-onetons of lead-silver-copper ore were produced from the Silver Princemine, but no oxidized zinc ore production is known.

Geology.-The known geology of the district is included in a de-scription of the Deep Creek Eange by Butler and others (1920, p.469475). The mines lie south of the large Ibapah stock of grano-diorite or sodic granite of Tertiary age, which intrudes rocks ofPaleozoic age. South of the stock on the west side of the rangemost of the rocks are quartzite and schist of possible Cambrian age,but the foothills farther west and southwest are composed of thick-bedded limestones of Ordovician age. The reported lead and zincdeposits are probably in these limestones in the ~out~hwesternoot-hills of the range.

Oxidized z i ~re resources.-Reports indicate that potentiallyvaluable deposits of lead-rich oxidized zinc ores exist in this little-known district.MOUNT NEB0 AND MONA DISTRICTS

Figure 13 shows the geology of the upper mainworkings of the mine. Much of t,lie oxidized zinc minerals directlyreplaces the primary lead-rich ores, but a smaller part is recon-centrated as secondary carbonates along the bottom of the blanket. The ores, similar to most others in the Mount Nebo district, containsome silver but are not notably rich in this met,al.

EXEBY COUNTYSUMMERVILLE, EMERY, OR LOST SPRINGS DISTRICT

Plate 1, no. 120Location.-In southeastern foothills of Red Plateau, northeasternpart of San Rafael swell. The site of Surnrnewille is in T. 18 S.,

    R. 13 E., about 10 miles southwest of Woodside in eastern EmeryCounty and north of old Spanish road to Castle Dale, Utah. GoodHope claims were not found.Development and production.-The only known oxidized zinc oreproduciton was in 1915 from the Good Hope claims (U.S. GeologicalSurvey, 1915,p. 401). Oxidized zinc ore was hand-sorted from crudeore and the operators shipped 139 tons, which averaged 25 percentzinc and contained some lead and silver to an eastern smelter. Somecopper was produced from this district in 1915 and 1917.Geology and ore.-The deposit is reported to be in a shale bedabout 5 feet thick between limestone and sandstone strata, It isprobably in the Moenkopi formation of Early and Middle( ? ) Triassicage, or less probably in the Kaibab limestone of Permian age. Anaverage sample of the ore face is reported to contain 1.5 to 8 percentzinc, and 1.5 to 7.5 ounces of silver per ton (U.S. Geological Survey,1915, p. 401). A sample of the best ore exposed is reported to assay13.5 ounces of silver per ton, 4 percent lead and 27.45 percent zinc. The minerals of the ore are not described.
