Here’sourproblem…Theincidenceofpediatricasthmahassignificantlyincreasedinthelocalcommunityoverthepast10years.Approximately1in5childrenbetweentheagesof5and12inthiscommunityhavebeendiagnosedwithasthma.Whencomparedtochildrenwithoutasthmainthesamecommunity,childrenwithasthmaaremorelikelytomissschool,arelesslikelytopar&cipateinextracurricularac&vi&es,andconsumesignificantlymorehealthcaredollarsperchild.Parentsofchildrenwithasthmaarealsomorelikelytomissworkwhencomparedtoparentsofchildrenwithoutasthma.Arecentevalua&onofpopula&onhealthconductedbythelocalhealthdepartmentdemonstratedthatsignificantlymorechildrenwithasthmawereoverweightorobesewhencomparedtochildrenwithoutasthma.
