How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Page 2: Evaluation 2

I would like to think that my trailer is effective enough to hook viewers into watching the horror film without any other form of advertisement. However to make sure that my product is able to be effective and gain the same sort of acknowledgement it has, I decided to include both a film poster and magazine cover. With both of these prints it allows my audience to see a representation of what my film is all about in a still picture. Posters can be seen everywhere, from online websites to billboards so there would be a high chance of a good amount of people coming across my poster, from here they will be able to decide whether or not they would want to watch my film/film trailer. Then for my magazine there will also be a lot of people who would come across it, especially in shops that sell magazines.

To make sure that both my magazine and poster would be successful into engaging audience in, I needed to be certain that the cover of both was big, bold and colourful. I used a very big and bold font which was my attempt into making sure that they will be spotted in the outside world. The main colours I used were black and red, this was to done to fit into the theme of horror. Also red is a stand out colour which is used by many other magazines and posters I have come across myself. For my two prints I used photoshop to create them, on the next two slides I will show you my two prints and the analysis for them.

Fangoria is a very well known horror magazine which will have many fans worldwide. This will attract a lot of audience to look at the magazine.

This is the title of our film and its font is a red colour over a dark background (which is the black hair of our antagonist) and this makes it look unique and stand out.

Here is an indication of what the magazine will consist of throughout. So the customers will know what they will be getting themselves into by only looking at the front cover of the magazine.

Here is our main antagonist and she is made to look blurry so that she remains mysterious to the audience, this will make the audience want to watch the movie to find out who she is and what she looks like.

On the right hand side there are a few posters being shown to the audience, if they like the look of these posters there is a chance that they will want to buy the magazine for them.

Here is a barcode, a barcode is very vital as it shows the audience that the magazine is legit and that it needs to be purchased.

Here are the names of our three actors, this shows the audience who the stars of the film will be.

The background of the magazine consists of the antagonist facing towards the camera with a scary scenery behind her, which includes a big detached house with trees around the area.

The title of our film ‘Aracelia’ is in big bold dark red writing and stands out more than anything in this film poster. The dark red colour represents blood and danger which is a convention of horror and gives the audience a hint of what they’re getting themselves into.

The tagline I used was “She won't forgive. She won’t forget”. Good people are generally thought to forgive and forget the cruel things other do to them, therefore someone who does not forgive or forget must be evil...just like our character.

These are the credits and they show who was involved in the making of this film.

The certification shows how old someone and must and the minimum age requirement for my film is ‘15’. This allows for a broader audience rather than having it set to ‘18’.

Here is the release date of my film, this lets the audience know when it will be available for them to watch in cinemas. This assists me a lot as the release date gives the film more recognition.
