How does you media product represent particular social groups?Looking at other products within my genre such as vibe and billboard gave me a good idea of what kind of demographic group my genre attracts. Both magazines attract both male and female audiences who are mostly young urban and stylish. When do my research I noticed that the way these magazines represent men and woman I quite a stereotypical way.

Men top less, gangster, big chains, tattoos, hard core, sexy and framed for the female gaze.

Women top less, fake, strong, iconic, make-up quite natural not much clothing and framed for the male gaze.

Target group

My magazine is targeted at a younger adults aged between the 18-25. I have chosen to make my magazine open to both genders because R&B music is not really gender specific meaning that it is quite welcoming to both male and female audiences. R&B originates from a black African American background so they main listens are black people, but as the time has gone on R&B has become much more wider, which is why I have chosen to make my magazine appeal to more of a African American audience. I think my magazine would appeal more to a working class group because of the style of the magazine and the language used. My magazine also appeals to a heterosexual majority because it is quite covenantal for R&B magazines to be heterosexual and it is mush more traditional.

I would like to think that my media product represents my demographic well because it captures what a lot of young people aspire to be which is rich, famous and fashionable. On my front cover I have a female modal and I dress so that she would fit into the stereotypes of woman in this particular genre for example her cloths are see thought and lacy this aspect connotes that she I famed for the male gaze where as her hair and make- up is a area which woman would be more fond of.
