What kind of media
institutions might distribute
your media product and
why?

With my magazine being aimed at more of a urban crowd, I done further
research into VIBE and XXL as I wanted to gain a rough idea who may distribute
my magazine. The VIBE and XXL are international magazines and mostly
published and available within the USA.
I personally think a UK magazine company should distribute my magazine. This is
because there is a gap in the market for my magazine especially this genre
within the UK.
When doing my research I noticed allot of American magazine were not sold in
the UK and with these magazines being the genre they are worked in favour of
my magazine as there would be a gap in the market for my magazine.
As my magazines contains both UK and US artists I think a good company to
distribute it would be EMAP as they currently produce NME and Kerrang but do
not yet publish magazines of the genre I will be providing this will increase there
sales along with widen their target audience.

I choose EMAP as I felt they
would be good to distribute
my magazine as they are 1
of many of the countries
leading media institutions.
EMAP has a history of
publishing over 20
successful leading
magazines.
Because of
EMAP history I
felt they would
be the best to
publish my
magazine as
they are reliant.
EMAP will also have
great experience and
knowledge for my
magazine to be
successful when it
comes to connotations
and denotations.
EMAP have also published
magazines such as Kerrang and
NME which are successful
magazines.

•EMAP became a PLC in the late 1970s under the guidance of the extremely successful partnership of Sir Robin Miller and David Arculus.
•In 1996 EMAP PLC agreed to sell its 65 newspaper titles.
•In 2006, Emap sold its French division to Italy's Arnoldo Mondadori Editore.
•On 27 July 2007, Emap announced that it was undertaking a review of the structure of the
group in response to receiving a number of unsolicited proposals to purchase parts of the company.
•On 12 September 2007, Emap announced that it had completed the disposal of its Australian consumer magazine division, Emap Australia for approximately £38m to ACP Magazines Ltd.On 29 January 2008, Emap PLC completed the sale of its radio, television and consumer media businesses to German company Bauer for £1.14bn.
•The remainder of the company was taken over by Eden Bidco Ltd, a company incorporated for the purpose of the acquisition by its owners, the private equity investment group Apax and the Guardian Media Group in late March/early April 2008.
•In March 2012, the company announced that it would be renamed Top Right Group, and that its magazines, events and data businesses would be separated into three standalone companies. The Emap name will continue to be used for the magazines operation, which at
the time accounted for around 18 percent of the group's turnover. The database business is to be called 4C Group, and the events unit will be renamed I2i Events Group

The graph below is EMAPs advertising growth . I looked in to this as I
thought it was necessary if EMAP was going to distribute my magazine
looking at the column below it shows that UK consumer for magazines
started of at 4% the decreased to nearly 0.0% then in 2004 made a
rapid increase as the growth for UK consumer magazines increased
to5.5% if this was not the case I would have looked into another
institution to advertise my media product such as IPC Media.

My magazine will fit well with
EMAP as they currently do
not have any magazines
targeted at mainly women.
Although they do have a
magazine targeted at women
, them distributing my
magazine will then spark ideas
for them to release other
magazines targeted at
women this will be a great
way to provide marketing and
advertising for my magazine.
Overall I believe EMAP has all the qualities in a publishing company
that I feel will give my magazine the best chance to succeed. It will
also be expanding their target audience so they will gain allot more
exposure and it will up their profits as they will be seen as diverse.
