Question 4

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

You Tube• YouTube was one of the main systems that we used within making our

documentary. This is because it was used in every stage of making it. We were able to use it is our research, planning, production and evaluation.

• We were able to use YouTube in our research because we could look up other documentaries and compare them to what we wanted to do and why. As YouTube is so varied, we were able to compare and contrast research so that we could then get a wide range of research done and analysis.

• We used YouTube in our planning so we could describe what we wanted to do. As well as that, we were able to look at tutorials with lighting and he different effects different shots have.

• I used YouTube in my production, because we uploaded the different stages of our film making onto it. This meant that we could then get feedback from our target audience and see how they feel with comments and likes.

4OD

• 4OD was an extremely useful tool to use within the research part of my media coursework. This is because Chanel 4 does a lot of documentary and short film work. We were able to use it to search and be inspired by the shots and conventions of a documentary and short film.

• As well as research, we used 4OD to distribute our film if we needed to. We would have used 4OD because they distribute the short documentary to the correct target audience. As well as this, they would know what to and what not to show and where/ when because they know the target audience well.

Blogger• Blogger is a blogging service for people to communicate with their

followers. This is through time-stamped entries and is located at www.blogger.com. A blog is essentially a journal that is based online and other people can see and comment on the bloggers posts.

• we have been using blogger throughout the whole of our project. This is because we wanted to show the examiner that we can use a diverse selection of software and processes. As well as this we wanted to show the examiner our progress from research to the final product.

• We used Blogger in the research part of our production because we could show our analysis and the different films. Blogger was helpful, because you can imbed YouTube videos. This meant that the viewer could see the clip we were talking about, instead of having to follow a link.

iMovie: • We used iMovie to make and produce our documentary. This is an editing software

for videos and audio. We used this software like a pair of scissors and glue to make our documentary. We used the different transactions and effects that you can use to make a film.

• We used nearly every aspect and feature in iMovie to make our documentary. The transaction part was used to select the way that the scenes moved from one to the other. These were such things as cross blur and cross dissolve. The transaction that we used most of was a simple cut.

• The sound part of this software we used to edit both the diegetic and non-diegetic sound within the documentary. With the non-diagetic sound we used the dimming feature and made the sound as loud as the farmers voice. We dimmed the sound whilst there was some dialogue so that this would then be the main focus of the scene.

• With the video editing side of the software we used the enhancer and the brightness/contrast. This was so that there was some uniformity within the different shots so that the grass and tone would look the same in all the shoots.

Photoshop• Photoshop is the photo editing piece of Adobe Systems. It is the

markets leading program for commercial bitmap and image manipulation.

• I used photoshop in all of my ancillery products in the production side of things

• In Photoshop I have a wide range of skills as I am also a Photography A level student. Therefore I used many of the skills that I already have to manipulate the pictures, however I needed to do some research into how to add text and the conventions to make the newspaper advertisement.

• Within the double page spread I used Photoshop to manipulate the image, however I used inDesign to make the double page spread and to add the conventions such s text, quotes and subtitles.

PowerPoint / Slide share

• PowerPoint is a presentation software to make it digitally possible to make presentations. In PowerPoint people can imbed features such as video and images, as well as the basic text.

• I used PowerPoint to make a couple of presentations and to show that I have a wide range of shills and uses of different softwares.

• To be able to imbed my presentation into my blog I had to use slide share. This is an online software that make s it possible for viewers to see the whole of the presentation without having to download anything.

InDesign

• InDesign is a publishing program to make documents such as leaflets and books. This is another Adobe Group software.

• I have had a little use of InDesign in my photography work, however I have only used the image part of the software. I have never used any of the text or box areas of this software.

• I used InDesign to make my double page spread about our farming documentary.

• I used this software, because it was the one that made the double page spread look most professional and was easy to use and understand.
