In what ways does your media product use, develop

or challenge forms and conventions of real media

products?

We created a teaser and we displayed many of the

typical codes and conventions of a real media

products:o Slow to fast pace clips

o Intense music

o Titles

o Credits

o Release Date

We also tried to stick to the fact that we can’t give much away in the teaser

trailer, because to purpose of a teaser trailer is to teaser to audience. We

believed that it was important not to break these conventions as we want to

audience to understand clearly what production we are making.

How effective is the combination of your

main product and ancillary tasks?

The combination of the main product and ancillary tasks was effective. This is because, whilst creating these products I tried to keep them all interlinked in one way, for instance at the end of the teaser trailer, below the release date I placed the web address for my movie website (the ancillary task 2) and within the website you can find copies of the movie posters (the ancillary task 1). Furthermore, I tried to keep most of the text fonts similar in the productions, this can be seen in the posters movie title and also in the tabs and movie heading on the website.

To encourage a similar link of all the media products, I ensured that there was one clear link between all products. This would be the images used, as the image on the movie poster is the blue alien arms we briefly see in the teaser trailer. Also, bordering around the website on its sides is hundreds of blue aliens arms grabbing into the darkness. This I believe will allow the audience to understand the connections between all the products.

How did you use new media

technologies in the construction and

research, planning and evaluation

stages? In order to assist the making of this project, I had to develop my use of different media technologies. I had used Google to research into teaser trailers, movie poster and movie websites, and also I used Microsoft excel to display results from research gathered from my target audience. Other examples of media technologies which I used; are Microsoft word during the planning stages and emailing which allowed me to communicate to my partner to converse if we agreed on certain decisions. These programmes were easy to use as I have used them many times before, therefore in this case my skills weren’t expanded.

However, during the construction of my project I had to open myself up to unfamiliar media programmes. Such as Adobe Premier in the making of the teaser trailer, Adobe Indesign and Photoshop when making the movie poster, then used Adobe Dreamweaver during then creation of the website. I was able to pull from some of the knowledge I gained from GCSEs and AS level media, but I had learnt how to use fade in transitions in the footage. Dreamweaver was a completely new programme for me and I had faced many problems with it such as uploading the site onto the web, and also I had to teach myself how to insert videos and change the fonts. I had some knowledge of Photoshop yet Indesign was a new territory but manage to find my way around it and used Indesign for a couple tweaks in my poster. Out of all the stages making was definitely the part where I had to widen my capability of media technologies.

For this evaluation, I decided to make a slideshow in order to be more interactive. For this I had to open up a slide share account to upload it onto this blog. The task of making this PowerPoint I learnt how to embed videos onto the slideshow. Overall, I believe I used a wide variety of media programmes and technologies when completing this project, and from this experience I have a better understanding of how these work.
