WHAT WAY DOES MY MEDIA PRODUCT, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE CONVENTIONS OF REAL MAGAZINES

HAMZA HANIF

I think my multimedia product ( Classical Symphony) does develop and use conventions of real classical music magazines, my magazine is based of a real classical music magazine BBC MUSIC and Classical. Most of my ideas have been inspired by BBC MUSIC. E.G. the cover of my Classical Symphony magazine the photo is not covered in text fully like most music magazines. The colour scheme is completely different to Classical magazines I have edited the whole image and added more colour to it , I have a black and white image and a golden colour around to make it stick out whereas the BBC MUSIC magazine is in full colour and Is in my opinion cluttered with information. I have challenged classical music magazines conventions in the pictures they normally have a smile on their face whereas on mine my model is serious, I did this to show the concentration on his face to show how serious his is about his passion for playing the piano

I think my product has challenged classical music magazine conventions because they have big clear information written on their front cover where I have used 2 fonts Lao UI and Kunstler Script Which makes it stand out but it doesn’t cover much of the page unlike the BBC MUSIC magazine. They have covered majority of the top half of the magazine which I think it takes up too much space of the cover.

Most classical magazines have a simple name but I thought I’d use a music term to make it stand out and eye catching.

I think the masthead has challenged magazine conventions because the font they have used compared to the 2 I have used .

I made sure that I have used the key components of any magazine e.g. the date and price and barcode. They are all real magazine conventions. I have shown that I have developed conventions of music magazines.

On my cover I have used “Andras Schiff” as cover line. The readers will easily recognise

that this issue will mainly be about “Andras Schiff” this is because it is in the 2nd biggest font size after the masthead.

I have used the main important text in a white font to stand out and make sure that they notice the masthead and the cover line before they notice any other text on the page

My contents page uses most forms of magazine conventions e.g. the text is in line with each other and not out of place. The continuous theme shows a brands identity that’s why I have used a gold colour through my product. Official music magazines are always arranged into more than one category, this makes it easier for the reader to find what page or information they are looking for. My contents page has 3 categories which is features, regulars and interviews, they are in bigger font sizes so it stands our and clear to the reader. I didn’t include social media icons because it doesn’t fit with the genre and other classical magazines do not have social media icons. I challenged music magazine conventions because most of them categories are in boxes, I didn’t put it in the boxes because I thought it wouldn’t look official and it doesn’t appeal to my target audience because it will make it look un-appealing.

DOUBLE PAGEMy Double page spread catches the attention of my audience because the title is in a big font size and it is something my target audience will be interested in. my title is “ Proms 2015” this stick out to people who will read classical magazines it is intriguing and bold because it is in 2 colours and on my plan I had the text on the left and then the image on the right. I moved it because we all read from left to right and it will be easier to read. On the left is the title and beneath it is a plug in which talks a little more on what the article will be about but in a little more depth but it is enough to intrigue the reader carry on reading. I have a plain background because I could not find a background which allow the text to be seen properly. on my plan I had more than one image placed in boxes on the left page but then realized it’s not anywhere near what a classical music magazine would have
