In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions

of media products?I have followed the general codes and conventions of magazines in many ways; this can be seenby comparing my college magazine with an actual magazine produced by professionals. My magazine starts by following the rule of thirds which is consistent in my magazine and the professional magazine. I have place sections of my image in ‘hotspots’ to allow the reader to get the main focus of the magazine. Moreover, I have placed my masthead ‘Our college’ at the top of the magazine which would be consistent with all further magazines and allow the magazine to become easily recognisable. Both magazines have mastheads at the top therefore my magazine has that in common with the magazine I'm comparing it to. In addition, I have anchored my coverlines to the main image and models who are the main focus of the magazine. This is to allow the readers to see the main coverline I want focused on. Also, a main coverline and some secondary coverlines have been used on both magazines which allows the readers to gain some information before reading the magazine. The issue number and dateline have been tucked away in a corner away from anything important as it’s not an essential for people to know which is also done with ‘attitude’. The issue number informs the audience what issue the magazine is and the date line informs the audience when the magazine was released for sale. Furthermore, bold font has been used in both which is common in magazines as it allows the coverlines to stand out and be focused on by the audience. Finally, direct address is being given by both models to gain the attention of the audience.

of media products?Differences: Even though I followed some codes and conventions there are still differences. For example, typically with magazine covers a medium close up is used to allow the focus to be on the models face which has not been done by my magazine. In addition another difference was that the background was too busy so it means its harder for the audience to know what to focus on; this takes away from the importance of the models. But in conclusion I have generally followed the codes and conventions.

of media products?Similarities: I have followed the general conventions of a magazine contents page by using the same features as the professional magazine. This has been done by using a similar colour scheme throughout, which allows the audience to recognise the magazine instantly. In addition, the contents header is at the top to show the readers the purpose of the page.Furthermore, the use of masthead/logo at the top of the magazine allows for the reader to remember the name clearer and may allow for the reader to become a dedicated fan of the magazine. Images relating to the content of the magazine have been put around the contents page, to their given article to give the readers an idea about what they’re reading. Furthermore, my magazine has followed the rule of thirds which is consistent with both magazines to get the main points across to the readers by placing the most important information in hotspots.

of media products?Despite following codes and conventions some things are different between the two magazines such as: my magazine is a college magazine and the contents page isn't to intriguing as the ‘Shout what’s inside?’ contents page uses star power such as the coverline “We got to meet ZAC EFRON” which would make the audience more intrigued and interested by the magazine. However, other than that I think my magazine has followed most codes and conventions.
