Evaluation 1)In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? My magazine uses conventions of real magazines in many ways. My final product is almost identical to what my inspired magazine looks like from my masthead, left and right hand third cover lines, main image, and colour scheme etc. I developed the masthead from my inspired magazine by using the same font and attempted to scale the correct size and finding the right colour. The ‘rock sound’ magazine I used for inspiration doesn’t use a consistent style of masthead and it alters depending on the issue and the colour scheme chosen, so I moved from using my original ‘punk sound’ masthead and changed it under the circumstances. The main image I developed to reflect the inspired magazine by darkening the image and increasing the contrast around his face to make it lighter. I also challenged my inspired magazine by using black clothing on the model rather than lighter clothing to blend in with the black background which I believed looked 2)How does your media product represent particular social groups? My magazine product represents several different social groups based on the music genre of music I selected. It is aimed at people aged around 16 to 35, in the E sector on demographic table. The image has a dark palette of colours with a relatively light colour scheme to compliment it with light blues and yellows with a strong black. The model’s clothing is ‘DC’ which is one of the most, if not the most popular skateboarding brands, and is universally recognised by the majority of people. The article is based on one of the biggest pop punk bands as of now Rise Against, who are known for their songs about contemporary controversial issues such as world poverty, environmental issues like global warming, and teen bullying. 3)What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? I believe the media institution that would distribute my magazine would be Bauer media because it also distributes other rock orientated magazines such as Kerrang, Planet Rock, and Radio City etc. Also, Bauer media distributes more modern magazines which would be suitable for my younger audience who would be working/lower class people made majority students. Almost all of the magazines Bauer distributes are aimed at a younger generation of people who would be in the E sector or reformers on a demographic table as less educated, perhaps unemployed, or a student, hence why my magazine is cheaper than usual monthly magazines at a cost

1)In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

My magazine uses conventions of real magazines in many ways. My final product is almost identi-cal to what my inspired magazine looks like from my masthead, left and right hand third cover lines, main image, and colour scheme etc. The main image I developed to reflect the inspired magazine by darkening the image and increas-ing the contrast around his face to make it lighter. I also challenged my inspired magazine by using black clothing on the model rather than lighter clothing to blend in with the black background which I believed looked

2)How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My magazine product represents several different social groups based on the music genre of mu-sic I selected. It is aimed at people aged around 16 to 35, in the E sector on demographic table. The image has a dark palette of colours with a relatively light colour scheme to compliment it with light blues and yellows with a strong black. The model’s clothing is ‘DC’ which is one of the most, if not the most popular skateboarding brands, and is universally recognised by the majority of peo-ple. The article is based on one of the biggest pop punk bands as of now Rise Against, who are known for their songs about contemporary controversial issues such as world poverty, environmen-tal issues like global warming, and teen bullying.

Almost all of the mag-azines Bauer distributes are aimed at a younger generation of people who would be in the E sector or reformers on a demographic table as less educated, perhaps unemployed, or a student, hence why my magazine is cheaper than usual monthly magazines at a cost of £3 opposed to other mag-azines which on average cost around £4 to £5 per issue.I don’t think IPC would be a suitable media company to distribute my magazine because they do not distribute any modern rock themed magazines besides NME. Their magazines are primarily lifestyle magazines such as fashion, TV guides, and sports etc. They aren’t aimed at a younger au-dience as they have magazines like Shooting Times, Boat Owner, Golf Monthly, and Horse and Hound which are ultimately pass times which pensioners or older people do, which demographi-cally fits into a mix of the E and possibly A sector.

4)Who would be the audience for your media product?

The audience for my magazine would be younger people primarily around age 16 to 25, and aged 30 maximum. The target audience is purely based on the genre of music chosen which is pop punk ,which is based on personal preference as it is one of my favourite genres, and spreads to a wide range of different people, and isn't set on a particular sub-culture like the majority of music genres like pop, or reggae. Although pop punk is seen to be highly viewed by an ‘emo’ social group, it isn't necessarily and that seems to be a stereotype society views. It is listened to by almost everyone, especially the big bands like Green Day, The All American Rejects and A Day to Remember etc.

5)How did I attract my target audience?

Page 2: Evaluation

I attracted my target audience through numerous ways, one being images. The main image on my front cover is dark which I believe would stand out on a shelf of magazines in a store because most magazines have quite bright colours and the dark colour would contrast them, catching an audi-ences eye other the others. The model on the front cover is wearing a DC hoodie which is a univer-sally recognised skateboarding brand and also targets that kind of audience. It will also attract fans of pop punk music due to the bands and articles I have featured on the magazine with big names such as Rise Against, Blink-182, Paramore etc.The price of the magazine is also cheap for a monthly magazine at a price of £3, making it afford-able for the targeted audience of younger people and people in the E sector on a demographic ta-ble, meaning it will many issues and make a good income.

6)What have I learnt about technologies from the process of constructing my product?

During the constructing of my magazine I used Photoshop CS6 for all three of my front cover, con-tents page, and double page spread. I have learnt a lot about using photoshop compared to when I began. When I began I didn't even know how to insert an image, but have since been able to pro-duce a good quality magazine. I have learnt to manipulate images such use as quick selection and raw image filter to make my images suit my style of magazine. As well as using Photoshop, I have also heavily relied on using Slideshare, Prezi, Blogger, Pow-toon, and Emaze, which were vital during the planning and research of my magazine.
