Looking back at your preliminary task what do you feel you have learnt in the

progression from it to full product

School magazine task This is my school magazine task as you can see it is very basic and does not really appeal to the audience

Lots of blank space is present in this front cover leading to making the magazine looking very bland and boring and doesn't do much to attract the reader

Present front coverHaving looked more at other magazines of the same genre I built up more of a understanding of how magazines looked and having learnt from previous mistakes I made sure not much blank space was used

More variety of font and colours were used to make the magazine look more lively and to appeal more to the audience

Adding more features such as a competition and artists at the top make the magazine seem more authentic making it look a lot better than my preliminary task

What I have learnt

• Over the whole time spent on my coursework i learnt many new aspects of what is used within the media such as media connects with other subjects such as photography and ICT i have also learnt how to attract audiences and how to sell something.

What I have learnt (photography)• The photography was a main area I have learnt a

lot about as I never knew what poses would create a good or bad image and how lighting influenced the characters emotion such as how a dark, low lighted picture could show a dark side to someone or how a bright picture can bring happiness.

• From starting my preliminary task I had no idea of which pose to do or how it could help in establishing in my genre so I just took a medium close up showing my model.

What I have learnt

Very basic picture there is no pose or facial expression used making the model look boring

No lighting is used adding to the pictures feel of very boring as well as making the photo look like it does not belong to a genre which make cause the audience to feel confused when reading this and not give a straight impression as a college newspaper

What I have learnt

• Having made this without previous research I went on the internet and went looking for previous magazines as well as looking at magazines in shops and these two were the ones that influenced me the most.

What I have learnt

• Looking at previous magazines gave me a idea of how they attract the reader and saw how these images use lighting to create emotion as well as how poses help influence the genre.

What I have learnt

In my image I have used a pose of my actor looking down a the camera making him seem better than us and bigger than us which is used in a lot of other hip hop magazines.

My images pose is similar to that of vibes magazine both looking down at the camera however vibe uses more shadow to make the models look more menacing however I wanted to make sure that I didn't want my character to look to intimidating.

What I have learnt(layout)

• I have learnt a lot off previous magazines for the layout without really looking at music magazines I didn't really know what to do and made a basic layout and in my prelim task I only had a few headlines my picture and the title making the cover look very boring

What I have learnt

• However once I started looking at other magazines of the same genre I found out a lot more to do such as including the artists included within the magazine which I included at the top of my magazine

• as well as creating catchy headlines and hooking the reader in rather than just telling them what happened in one plain headline

What I have learnt

• Looking at magazines all has a familiar feature and that was either a competition or a free item included so I thought I would include this into mine and made a competition at the bottom of the page which could lead to the customer buying the magazine just to enter the competition

What I have learnt(font)

• Before starting my main product i had a idea of what kind of font I would use and that would be to use graffiti style to had to the hip hop genre and feel

• In my prelim task I choose the font as American style college font which I felt went well with the theme of a college magazine

What I have learnt

• I chose to carry on the same kind of font style by using the font with the genre of the magazine so I choose to look at the hip hop area and found heavy use of graffiti is used so i went onto a site given by college called http://www.dafont.com/ which has a whole section on graffiti font which helped me use in my title

What I have learnt

• Looking back at everything i have done I feel I have learnt a lot my prelim magazine looked very bland and boring and with the use of research I found out how to make a better looking magazine that would actually sell.
