My music video uses the following conventions

of real media products…

Setting

Shots

Editing

Sound

As I was organising all aspects of the music

video I felt as a producer the setting was very

important . The music video had to have an

appropriate setting which not only fit with the

music genre but the track I had chosen from

the band’s discography. I began my research by

deconstructing similar music videos of a similar

genre.

The Barn at Stalisfield

The shoot location was eventually a building

site and so it was expected to change what I

did not expect was that the change to have a

positive effect on the music video. The barn

was stripped to its skeleton all but its roof

making it a very unusual but organic and raw

setting which I wanted from the start.

My two initial ideas were completely

juxtaposed stylistically and based on two

locations organic or mechanical I chose the

organic and so this fit perfectly with the barn

as it changed and morphed into the skeletal

location.

It was important that my music video had recognisable conventions of the music genre. So when looking for inspiration for shots I deliberately looked at a variety of different existing music videos but focused mainly on three. I began by looking at possible shots for the music video from the beginning of my research as this made it easier throughout the creative production process to visualise and imagine how the final product would look. This also allowed me to see how I could change and develop these conventions for my own video.

Page 10: Evaluation Part 1.0

• Often seen in music videos as it helps create a relationship

between the band and audience

• Often used as it creates iconography by showing the most

recognisable member of the band

• A very emotive shot often used to make the observer more

subjective and included

• The upward angel makes the guitarist appear larger, more

powerful and shows their talent

• The upward angle could be associated with the angle

audiences take when watching a live performance

• Psychologically dominating

• Tends to create a feeling of ideology for the

viewer/recipient

• When well synced with audio it can create a greater

musical effect on the audience making the image and

sound more powerful
