Title Font And Style

Page 3: Evaluation post 1

Through out my film opening I’ve decided to make my font colour and size the same throughout. This is so that it looks more profesional as this being consistent. Furthermore, using the same font and size allows the reader to read clearly and therefore not take any struggle in reading the titles. We have chosen to make the font red as the colour red is not to dark and to light , in addition the colour red links well with our genre thriller as it connates with blood, death, danger which are all generic convection. We chose to make it an appropriate size in order to build suspense through simplicity.

Genre And How The Opening Shot Shows This.

Page 5: Evaluation post 1

In our film opening, we immediantly went into scene where it was dark. I had used this as opening shot to draw a suspense atmosphere to the audience also to foreshadow that something bad will happen. The Church is one of our chosen main location, this is where we used non-diegetic sounds; Church bells to make the audience feel intensed. The first scene is where it jumps into action to show it is not a short film. The first scene shows someone being killed. We show this through out the film but not telling the audience why he was murdered, this was to make them question why he died therefore making them still interested.

Props

Page 7: Evaluation post 1

We have used many props but our main prop was the rope. The rope was the key item which was used to mureder the protagonist. A rope is seen as a useless type of method to murder someone but the reasoning behind this is to frame the protagonist. This will is what is known as dramatic irony as the audience knows whats happening but the actors do not. This will therefore engage the audience into hoping for a good opening making them what to watch it till the end.

Camera Works And Editing

Page 9: Evaluation post 1

We had used many camerawork and editing. The most significate one was Pan and Track. Here we have Pan where the protagonist was kicked to the floor. We had done this through the use of the tripod to make it steady and leveled. For Tracking we had the dead body of the antogonist and showed him head to toe, this was not possible for the tripod as this was low level so we had to use our hands and be steady.

Costumes And How The Character Are Introduced

Page 11: Evaluation post 1

In the film we had four characters all wearing tracksuits or hoodies. These were the typical clothes of what teenagers tends to wear. However we can see the protagonist the only odd one out as his clothes is lighter, this is to show his innocence. Where as the others have a more darker clothing to show they’re the opposite. We introduced three characters by trying to murder the protagonist, here we can see the fear and frustration on the protagonist this was because we wanted the murders to look intimidating which brings fear to the audience.

Settings And Locations

Page 13: Evaluation post 1

We had two main location:

The Forest- We used this location where the protagonist dies. This is because the character is surrounded with no escape routes, this shows he is trapped also a forest can be seemed repeated therefore it implies your trapped. This will bring fear and suspense to the audience which is a key generic convection. A forest is also a typical place where people get lost and killed, we wanted to link our film opening to this.

The Church/Cementry- This is another location which we have chosen as this is generic convection in terms of location as this draws suspense and fear to the audiend. This was due to that we wanted the same feelings of the audience to carry on. This being our intention, we wanted shows that someone has died and had come back alive from the dead which would seem impossible.

Story And How The Opening Is Set Up

Page 15: Evaluation post 1

This is a key scene where we see the protagonist tortured. This scene is significant as we want the audience to know the portagonist is not a bad person and is innocent. We wanted to show that these ‘baddies’ had no ‘heart’ and did not care when taking a person’s life away. We have hinted to the audience that the protagonist is coming back alive but have not given any reason sort to why he was being killed in the first place. This will keep the intrest of the audience and bring fear to them as they know that this sort of stuff, where people get murdered, has happened before in real life.

Special effect

Page 17: Evaluation post 1

We have used many special effects these includes fading, slow/fast motion, freezing frames etc. Through the use of theses, this helped us bring a more thriller theme as fast/slow motion brought in suspense. The most significant effect was the flashing to portray a camera flashing. This effect engages the audience as them thinking that someone is taking pictures as they know what is happening. This then makes us belive if there is a witness and will he come forward.

The Title Of The Film

Page 19: Evaluation post 1

The film is called ‘The damned soul’. The story line was about a innocent person being killed comes back alive to avenge himself, thus we had a conclusion to name it ‘The damned soul’ because the character soul is damned as it comes back to life. The title is the only part where is the only thing where the font is different, this is because we want to show the importance of the title.
