Evaluation Question Three - What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Page 2: Evaluation Presentation

After conducting my audience research I was able to conclude that it would seem that the special able to conclude that the specialised genre audience find it very hard to resonate with the film as they are usually gritty narratives that focus on untouched by Hollywood subjects. In addition to this, characters in the films often demonstrate unique and experimental qualities that are often again, untouched by mainstream film-makers.

In addition to this, I conducted some research into the travel/wanderlust genre. For this, I used Vimeo and YouTube and I also used Twitter and Tumblr to gather ideas on what people expect from travel and wanderlust based films; from this I was able to pour all feedback from this into my pre-production plan. From the questions I asked, the answer I got back that had most influence on my film was; "To be immersed in the sense of adventure. To see the visuals, hear the audio and feel free." This answer had the most influence on my film as it is what I look to resonate with in travel/wanderlust based films.

The audience that my film would attract would be highly niché. This is because my film does not conform to the typical conventions of a short film. There are no characters in my film, nor is there a narrative. There is simply a voice over that controls the entirety of the film.

Evaluation Question Three - What have you learned from your audience feedback?

The feedback provided by my teacher allowed me to develop my research, planning and constructions of my media products. Throughout the research and planning stages Miss Stone provided thorough feedback as to how to improve our blogs, as well as our short films.

I decided to share my film on the social networking sites Tumblr, Facebook and Twitter. I did this so that I could obtain audience feedback easily and clearly. This was an easy way to obtain feedback from a margin of people that are interested in the genre of my film - travel/wanderlust/lyrical.

In regards to the distribution of my film;

There is a limited amount of distribution companies in which my film would be distributed. It is possible that a fitting way of distributing my film would possibly be through Curzon Cinemas; this is because Curzon Cinemas are a leading art-house cinema and as they are in fact an art house cinema chain that shows independent films. As my film displays elements of independent film-making and experimental film-making it is possible that Curzon Cinemas would be a good distributor for my short film.

In addition to this, as film festivals are used to promote up-coming directors and experimental/creative films it is possible that this is another way that I could distribute my short film. However, I would have to consider what film festivals would show my film as there are many that specialise in different elements;

1. The London Short Film Festival,2. BFI Future Film Festival (Open to young people),3. Sundance Film Festival,4. Raindance Film Festival.
