1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of media products? On my contents page I have created a large old school fashioned font for my mast head and placed it at the top of my magazine using the codes and conventions of a magazine. I chose to make my masthead colour purple. This is because it is a bold colour that will help my magazine stand out on the shelves in stores as it is the first thing the reader will see. On the main image there is a close up mid shot of two girl students sitting down on a bench. I chose to use these two girls to photograph for my main image as a convention of a magazine, magazine front covers usually have someone/people who are iconic or suitable for their magazine genre.

This represents the target audience that my magazine is aiming towards, 16-18 year old students of any gender and ethnicity wanting to find out more Information about the sixth form and student life. The girl on the left is holding a purple and pink folder in her arms as a prop. This represents what genre my magazine is. It Is for educational purposes as it is what a lot of students use. Both of the girls on the front cover are smiling, they look happy and welcoming. This will attract the audience because if the people on the main image of the magazine look happy, it symbolises that the college is a happy and welcoming place for students. Which will make the audience want to find out more information about the college and buy the magazine. The target audience is for 16-18 year old students, this is presented by the main cover line ‘the student life!’ this shows that the niche market is for students.. . The cover lines on my front cover surround the main image, they’re being placed in a vertical line down the page to represent how I have followed the codes and conventions of a magazine. There is a range of different cover lines in various different colours on the front cover of my magazine for example ‘Join us September 2017’ which anchors my main image. This is in a bold deep blue colour, it stands out on my front cover and it anchors my main image. It anchors my main image because it draws the readers attention to the magazine, if they know that their in the target audience (by looking at the main image), they will want to read more because they will know the magazine is aimed at them. My cover lines are in different vibrant colours like blue, orange, pink, purple etc… I chose those colours so that they stand out on the page (following a magazines codes and conventions) and because they’re young colours like the audience my magazine is targeted towards. Lastly I have placed the barcode on the bottom right hand corner of my magazine. I have placed it here because it is where most magazines put their barcode (being a code and convention) in this particular place as it is easy to scan at a counter in the shop.

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of media products? On my contents page I have made my ‘contents’ title’s font large (in size) and orange. This is because my magazine’s target audience is students (ages 16-18 of any gender and ethnicity). Because it is targeted at a younger generation of people, I thought the colour orange would be symbolic and suitable. On my content’s page I created a range of different subtitles to do with what my magazine contains. I numbered the pages in a logical order following the codes and conventions of a magazine, this is because inside a magazine different stories/articles don’t follow straight

after each other. Whilst creating this magazine I took 3 original pictures and scattered them across my contents page. I included images on my contents page (following the codes and conventions or a magazine) to interest and inspire the audience to read more. I have used the rule of thirds when placing my images on the magazine. I did this because these are places that the reader’s eye is drawn to almost straight away. Seeing images to do with what the magazine contains will intrigue them to find out more… Over my contents page I have lined up my page titles in 3 columns (above or below my images). I used this idea following the codes and conventions of a magazine. This makes the contents page easier and more logical for the audience to follow. They can see clearly what it is that the magazine contains. The images that I took for my contents page, I took to represent certain articles inside my magazine. I placed the page number of the article that the photograph is representing. Anchoring the images to the page. This will give our niche market a visual in site as to what certain parts of the magazine is about. Lastly I have used a range of colours and fonts for my article titles on my contents page. I have chosen to do this because it will attract the niche audience by its vibrant and friendly look. I have chosen to use these colours because it gives the magazine more of a creative look, just like the college I am writing about.

On the left is my final front cover and on the left is my drawn draft. For most of the magazine front cover I have tried to follow my original ideas, especially with the cover lines and main cover lines. Once I was out taking my images for my front cover I decided that I wanted 2 students looking happy and welcoming on my front cover rather than one student standing on the campus grounds. I feel as though the image that I chose is a lot more appropriate and better suited for my magazine to attract an audience. Also the other thing that I changed when it came to creating my final piece is that I changed the design of my mast head. I chose to go with a bold old school font in one block colour (purple) rather than a fancy font in different colours. I chose to do this because I think it stands out a lot more against the page rather than my first idea.

On the left is my final contents page and on the right is my drawn draft. Again I have tried to follow my draft as closely as possible, I kept my images and text in the same design as my drawn draft. I also tried to use more or less the same colours for my writing too. Only things that I have done is add a couple of extras e.g. social media information (and their logos), moved the college logo and added my magazines front covers masthead on to the top left corner. I also changed the page numbers for my magazine as on my drawn drat they were too precise and unrealisitic.
