3) What have you learned from audience feedback?

We asked for feedback on various social networking sites and received a variety of comments that were mostly positive and about our trailer in particular. We focused on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and YouTube as those were the site that chose to promote and advertise out trailer. By collecting qualitative data we were able to receive detailed responses about where our products had been successful and effective in, for example portraying genre, and where our weaknesses were.

Narrative and Structure

Audiences said that our narrative was only conveyed slightly however some concluded that this had more effect than if we had explained in more detail. When deciding on how structure the acts and convey the story we decided to leave the narrative as simple in order to avoid trying to film a scene that was beyond us but also to avoid spoiling anything for the viewer as the scene of the apocalypse would be very pivotal within our movie.

Characters

Our feedback also said that our creation of zombies was also effective due to our use of make-up and costume. From this we know that we were able to get across to the viewers who were the zombie antagonists featured within the

trailer. We also know that our use of costume was successful as that contributes greatly to the image of the zombies. We asked our actors to wear dark clothes such as blacks or browns as these would be able to reinforce the horror genre. Our main actress wore a denim shirt that went well with the mise-en-scene as the blue went well with the greens and appeared to have an old and worn look to it.

Setting

Our uses of setting were especially picked up on as most people found the forest a good isolated setting that followed the narrative and created a desolate and terrifying atmosphere. Comments came back saying that the settings were effective as the viewer was forced to relate to the action which was another reason for us choosing an area of nature with no urban signs or distinctions. We wanted to convey that civilization had crumbled and that there was nothing left but a few survivors that had to struggle to stay alive. By using London we were also able to make the trailer seem legitimate and create a variety of locations that were both interesting and sometimes recognisable, i.e. using Big Ben in London helped to set the scene and is an iconic place that everyone knows about.

Music

Our feedback also gathered comments of our use of sound and music within our trailer. The use of crescendos during tense moments that built the suspense and anticipation were especially effective as they made the scenes more intense. People also said that the music worked well with our editing as, for example, when the critical accolades came there was a drum beat that matched its appearance thus emphasising the review. Feedback also stated that the music was good in that it helped to convey when something was going to happen and immediately put viewers on edge in anticipation. In addition to this was the foreboding that the music held at times and allowed the audience to feel as if something were being foreshadowed.

Editing

Our use of institutional information and other inclusions that real film trailers include seemed to impress some of our viewers as it made the trailer seem professional and legitimate. Our editing pace was also picked up on with people and most liked the fast pace that we used throughout as it added to the anticipation and excitement, especially in the last section and our final montage. Feedback was that the loud shots followed by our tagline effective in creating emphasis and making people want to see the film.

Constructive Criticism

From this we know that the action scenes towards the end when we showed the fighting between our main character and the other survivors may have been premature as it could be considered to be a spoiler if we reveal who is stabbed or injured however I feel that as it was only a minor character that we showed getting injured, that this did not greatly affect the audience or give away much of the plot.
