1Soap forms and conventions.

Camera shots used to involve the audiences, such as over the shoulder shot to create a 3rd person narrative or camera as fourth wall.

Natural make-up, characters look good but not made up, they are realistically aspiration

A lot of big close up’s to show reaction shots and facial expressions of characters

Conflict and disequilibrium in each episode

Natural lighting used to create realism

Multiple story lines allows the multiple narratives to be spread across each episode which keeps the viewers interested.

POV involves the audience, making them feel they are there, experiences the action and the characters emotions

Multiple main characters.Allows for parallel narratives and convergences. Often smaller story lines alongside a larger one. Keeps audience interested.

Soap Opera conventions.

Conventions of existing trailers. 1

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ho69_sCkwyI skins trailer shots taken from.

Use of various shots, ranging from close-ups to long shots of characters. Also establishing shots of social grounds. Over the shoulder, point of view and high and low angle shots.

The close ups show clearly the characters emotions and their facial experiences.

Long shots allow the audience to see all the mise-en-scene helping to set up the scene

Pace of the soundtrack reflects the characters emotions.

Fading to white to represent flash backs/flash forwarding.

Use of locations which the target audience can relate to. Involve the audience.

Blurring of scenes to create a sense of ambiguity.

Page 9: Evaluation question 1

Conventions of existing e4 billboards. 1Blurring. Makes the audience wonder what might have happened next, wants to see it clearer. Also using an extreme close shows the importance of object.

Long shot. Shows the park mise-en-scene, place teenagers might hang out or use as a cut through. Shows the idea that these two characters weren’t suppose to meet up.

Big close up of characters face clearly shows the audience her facial expressions, allowing audience to be involved and to guess at what will happen next.

Establishing shot of the Bamford arms, shows the social class of the characters in the soap by seeing a clear image of their social ground.

‘CCTV’. A is a screen shot from Hollyoaks.

Several story lines are portrayed in my trailer. This is to follow the conventions of a soap opera trailer but also make the trailer more interesting and enigmatic

Editing in my trailer 1

The beginning of the trailer starts with the music at a slower pace and the scenes shown in mainly slow motion. This is to introduce the plot lines and the characters carefully. The main characters Mason is introduced with medium close up slow zoomed into a big close up. This is to make it clear to the characters that this character is important, it also allows characters to clearly see his facial expressions and understand his stereotype.

As the trailer continues the music gets faster in pace. This is to reflect the heightening storylines between the characters. The conflict between the 3 male characters is shown more and short cuts are used to show the build up to the violent fight scene. Big close ups of characters are used through out the trailer to portray the characters feelings by clearly showing their facial expressions.

Lighting/sound 1

Natural lighting used throughout the trailer to create a sense of realism.

Shots filmed on location to continue the realism we wanted to portray.

I used a non-diegetic soundtrack to heighten the shown feelings and emotions of the characters .

The song is a passion pit remix which think works well in my trailer as the beat speeds up as the characters clashing lives are shown more. It is also a dance song that could be heard at a party and reflects the teenage lives of the characters.
