Evaluation Question # 1

Page 2: Evaluation question 1

How do your products use or challenge conventions and how do they represent social groups or issues?

I have done a lot of research into similar hard rock genre songs and videos such as here with me by the killers and rockin’ all over the world by status quo. I have decided to use the forms of real media products. For example starting with the mise-en-scene in the video of the killers shots have been recorded out in the city.

Here With Me Deja Vu

Another way in which we used forms and conventions from media products is our ancillary tasks as we created ancillary tasks which displayed our band from the music video in a stressed kind of way. This was to show that this was a really serious and a tensed video.

Real Media Product My Product

All of our album covers have similarity's as they are all showing the artists to promote a star image but they are just showing them tensed than some other album covers in other genre’s of music but this is quite common and generic for the hard rock genre so this is how we used forms and conventions of real media products

My project also covers quite controversial issues of gangsters, and there influences on ordinary people, and also the issue of crime. At one point I leave the viewer to decide if the people really follow the conventions of criminals, if they are big time mobsters, or simply people caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. However, the people shown in my product are quite young, which is quite unconventional, as usually men associated with crime are a lot older. The main group shown in my film project is middle class teenager males. From my project it could be deduced that males such as these are more likely to be involved in crime to some extent, but are actually bad people. Also, the costumes of my characters do not change for the robbery. This could show that the men are amateurs, and that stereotypically there social group is not as used to the idea of crime as perhaps, for example, working class men would. One large point of unconventionality in my Media product is the fact that the men are teenagers. People of this age are seen in other forms of media as drinking and vandalizing, but these men seem to be from a good background, and are already into serious crime.
