EVALUATION QUESTION 2:HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION OF YOUR MAIN PRODUCT AND ANCILLARY?

Page 2: Evaluation Question 2: How effective is the combination of your main product and your ancillaries?

Introduction• As part of my advanced portfolio, my group and I completed brief 2 and together, created a trailer. Then individually I completed the 2 ancillary products which are a film poster and film magazine cover.• Both the poster and film magazine cover are used as promotional tools, as they would help the audience become more aware of the film and would intrigue the audience to watch the film.

HOW MY POSTER WORKS WITH MY TRAILER• The film poster I have created works well with the trailer, I did this by linking features of the trailer to the poster. One of the ways I did this was by featuring the main protagonist of the trailer, Aaron in my poster. Aaron’s tense structure, with his clenched hands show the action genre of the trailer

• I thought it was very important in order to make both the poster and trailer work together, as if they work well together, the audience will be reminded of the trailer from the poster, which may intrigue them to see the film.

POSTER RESEARCH• I researched poster’s before I made mine, I researched them alone, and

with there trailer. I found most films keep to a similar colour code throughout. For example, in Maleficent, the colour blue is dominant in the poster and likewise, shown throughout the trailer.

• I created this sense of familiarity with colours by picking out the the excessive amount of grey shown in my trailer. Grey is shown to show the dark action thriller. One of the ways I made sure grey was prominent in my poster is using Aaron’s coat, however I later changed this to a darker grey, almost black.

• I found a lot of posters had slogans that were also featured in the trailer, so I added the slogan on “How far would you go for someone you love?” which is also in my trailer.

• Along with this I also have screenshots from the trailer featured in my poster, which links them both together smoothly.

GENRE CONVENTIONS• My poster includes genre conventions that would stereotypically be featured with an action and thriller trailer. This includes:• Dark colour scheme• Eerie and mysterious smoke foreshadowing bad fortunes, along with confusion and danger. This links to the trailer, it shows the danger Aaron is in, and the confusion he faces when he is charged for his sister’s murder.

AUDIENCE • My target audience would be between ages 18-25, both male and female. • In order to attract the audience my poster features a young male, this would help attract the audience as the main protagonist is of similar age as the target audience.• The use of dark colours may draw in an audience due to them being intrigued by the mystery the poster holds.

HOW MY FILM MAGAZINE COVER WORKS WITH MY TRAILER• The film magazine cover I have created works well with the trailer, I did this by linking features of the trailer to the cover. One of the ways I did this was by featuring the main antagonist on the front of the magazine cover. He’s posture was closed, with his arms folded tightly across his chest. Showing that he is not nice man, enhancing the fact he is the antagonist of the trailer.

• I thought it was very important in order to make both the film magazine cover and trailer work together, as if they work well together, the audience will be reminded of the trailer from the film magazine cover, which may intrigue them to see the film.

FILM MAGAZINE COVER RESEARCH• I researched film magazine cover’s before I made one, I looked at them compared to both the poster and the trailers of the films. I found they stick the main characters on the cover, and adapt their front cover to fit the colours of the movie.

• I did this by having a similar background for my film magazine cover, as I did for my poster. This is because it then becomes recognisable as a collective for A Question of Identity. The dark colours also once again stick to the genre of the trailer, and help the audience recognise the film as an action/thriller.

• Another way the audience could identify the film magazine cover to the trailer was through the slogan “How far would you go for the one you love.”

GENRE CONVENTIONS • My film magazine cover follows the correct genre conventions such as having a masthead (Top Film!) I had the image, of The Ghost, the main antagonist of the trailer, Buzz words ‘Exclusive’.

• The dark colours and eerie, mysterious smoke shows the action/thriller genre. The smoke represents the danger of The Ghost.

AUDIENCE • My target audience would be between ages 18-25, both male and female. • In order to attract the audience my poster features a young male, this would help attract the audience as the main antagonist is of similar age as the target audience.• The use of dark colours may draw in an audience due to them being intrigued by the mystery the poster holds.• Another thing that may draw the audience in is the columns on the side that is featured.
