Evaluation Question 2:How effective is the combination of

your main task (trailer) and ancillary tasks (poster & magazine cover)?

Page 2: Evaluation Question 2 Redone

I think that my three products do work well together, I have aimed to have continuity and have a consistent brand image throughout all of my products and have done this in several different ways. I wanted to ensure that my products looked as if they were all advertising the same movie and that they reflected a profession product when doing this. I know from my research that marketing campaigns for movies are incredibly important and vital to a movies success occasionally. As my trailer is rated 15 my target audience is obviously above this age. I wanted to attract both males and female between the age of 16 – 30 mostly however I do hope that others would be interested in my products.

To ensure that my products worked together I used the same actors in both my main and ancillary tasks. I had the main character from my trailer feature on both my poster and magazine.

I did this as most magazines and posters that I looked at only featured one person (the main character) and I wanted to ensure that my products reflected professional ones.

I did a lot of research into the fonts I used and made sure that I used the same ones through my trailer, magazine cover and poster to create continuity.

As you can see, I have used the same fonts through my products and I think they subtly link my products together and hopefully this will prove effective.

I tried to stick to quite a plain and simple colour scheme through out. I used a three pallet colour scheme (black, white and red). This persistent colour theme will hopefully allow the audience to subconsciously relate to the movie. These colours together have quite a gothic feel and link to the horror genre. Black is quite dark and generally connotes fear and mystery whereas red connotes evil, blood and gore both linking to the horror genre. White however represents innocence so this links with the main characters being two normal, innocent girls playing the protagonists.

I took inspiration from the magazine Empire. I wanted to make a magazine that usually covered all genres but make this edition a ‘horror edition’. I felt this would (if my magazine were real) gain the interest of both usual readers and horror fans and so essentially attracting more fans to my magazine and then more people to see the movie. My magazine would most likely be on sale in most newsagents and supermarkets, this allows me to reach the majority of the public therefore leading to maximum amount of sales.

I took a lot of inspiration for my movie poster from ‘The Woman In Black’. In my research I really liked the idea of having half of the poster dominated by image and the other by text and this poster stuck to that layout. This poster also influenced me in terms of colour too, I wanted to make it quite dark and mysterious so the main colour was black. I edited my actors eye to look similar to that of Daniel Radcliffe’s in this image as I thought it stood out and looked professional and quite eerie. I also edited my image as a whole to look more spooky.

I tried to follow typical conventions of a horror film poster and to make it look as professional as I could. I used a professional font when writing my actors names (Universal Accreditation) and this gave the poster a good finish as well as looking similar to the fonts used on the posters I had looked at.

As I know from some of my research films are helped a lot from ad campaigns and marketing so if my film was being released the poster would be featured on things such as buses, billboards, bus stops, in cinemas and inside magazines.

If advertising a real movie my trailer would be able to view on YouTube. It could also be shared on social media such as Twitter and Facebook where hashtags about the movie could be followed. There would also be different variations of the trailer to be used as television adverts or YouTube adverts. If shown on television I would want it to be shown on a range of channels but I feel ITV 1 or ITV 2 would be most effective as they have viewers of my target audience.

I would have other types of advertising too however. I feel that social media makes a huge different so Facebook and Twitter pages would be set up. Smartphone apps would also be very effective as this could allow fans to interact with one and other as well as possibly featuring games to do with the film. Exclusive clips and screen caps could be released on all of these platforms to create hype around the film and encourage people to discuss it. Marketing campaigns like this allow people to subconsciously remember the film/advert so they can link things in everyday life to it and hopefully can create conversation about the film with friends.

A premier for the movie would also create hype and hopefully some celebrities. If celebrities were to attend this would create hype from their fans as if they saw them attending they may become interested in the film even if they were not previously.

The logos used in my poster and trailers are the same.

This is to add continuity and to show that the products were produced by the same companies, as most professional products would be.

I also featured the movies website in both my trailer and poster, linking them together once again. The website would include exclusive clips and photographs of the movie and of the cast before release allowing fans to have a sneak peak of what the movie has in store.

My magazine does not contain the same logos as the poster and film trailer as the companies that produced these are not the same people that produced the magazine and it is very uncommon to see logos on the front of magazines (apart from the title).

Page 14: Evaluation Question 2 Redone

Most movie magazines will only feature a magazine as its main selling point and front cover image if they believe it is going to be successful so with my movie being the main story in the magazine it is going to convince people it is a good movie and hopefully persuade them to watch it. My magazine also features interviews with famous actors and exclusives to persuade people to buy it.

Page 15: Evaluation Question 2 Redone

Overall I feel that the combination of my trailer, poster and magazine is quite effective. I have ensured continuity through all of the products and because of this it is clear they come as a package. The colour scheme, actors and fonts helped with this.

I feel that the products would create a good marketing campaign and would help advertise my movie well.
