EVALUATION- QUESTION 3

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

Page 2: Evaluation question 3

To get feedback on our documentary we used questionnaires to ask the target audience once they had watched the documentary for them to fill out. We had already done this prior to creating the documentary; we created questionnaires to see what the most popular options were to add into our documentary e.g. colours, music, interviews etc. Therefor, as the results were very useful for this, we felt creating questionnaires would help us get an overall opinion on the project.

DID YOU LEARN A LOT FROM THE DOCUMENTARY?

AgreeDisagree

Our topic took a while for us to choose. We wanted to make sure the audience would be interested and wouldn’t get bored of talking about the same thing. We also thought about the type of audience we wanted to appeal to and what would relate to them. By this graph we can see the results were successful; not everyone learnt something new, but the majority of audience said they did, therefor our topic was a good choice. Also, I personally felt I learnt quite a few new things about the use of mobiles.

WAS THE SOUND QUALITY SUCCESSFUL THROUGHOUT?

yes

Series1We had to make sure that the sound throughout the whole documentary was clear and loud. I felt the voice over was very clear and timed well. We spent a lot of time changing and manipulating the sound for the; interviews, music, vox pops etc. so that it would all fit together and sound effective. Some people gave information back that the vox pops sometimes weren't heard properly because they were overpowered by other noises in the background, therefor we fixed this by shooting more vox pops.

WOULD YOU WANT TO CONTINUE WATCHING THE FULL DOCUMENTARY?

yes

no

The majority of people we asked for feedback said that they would want to watch the rest of the documentary. This was good for us because our main aim was to get the audiences attention and for them to enjoy the first five minutes so much that they would want to see more. We thought there were many reasons why the audience enjoyed our documentary; music, vox pops etc. but by getting only one person who wouldn’t want to watch the rest out of 10 observers is an extreme success because that means we have done everything we can to get our audience interested.

DID THE MUSIC LINK WELL WITH THE DOCUMENTARY AND MAKE IT FUN?

036

Series1

The graph results show that the majority of people who watched the documentary strongly felt the music was appropriate and successfully linked with the documentary and the message of the documentary. Most other people agreed also, but one person did disagree. However, we feel we have achieved our goal because we can see that the target audience mostly wanted the music with the documentary. We felt the music contributed well to the documentary because it made it more lively and fun as the beat was fast and exciting. This would be appealing to most of our target audience (teenagers/ young adults).

DID THE VOICEOVER WORK WELL AND WAS IT INFORMATIVE?

agree

Series1We chose to use a voiceover instead of a on screen presenter. After watching other documentaries we found this would be a better idea, so that the audience are not distracted from the subject or what is being said. The results for this question were really good because the whole of the audience we asked all said they found the voice over useful and I think they really listened to what was being said. We felt the voiceover was the most important thing because it was going to bring the whole documentary together and explain and relate with the audience.

DID THE RADIO TRAILER PROMOTE THE DOCUMENTARY SUCCESSFULLY?

THE RADIO TRAILER

very well sort of not at all0123456789

Series1

This question was very important because the radio trailer mainly was created to advertise the documentary, therefor if it didn’t promote the documentary we would not have achieved what we needed to. I think by using the same content that we used in our documentary e.g. voice over, vox pops, this then familiarized the audience and they felt that the documentary was being portrayed through the trailer. These were good results because everyone in some way felt the radio trailer worked well, therefor we made it successfully.

WAS THE SOUND QUALITY SUCCESSFUL AND RELATABLE?

THE RADIO TRAILER

Series1

The sound quality is very important on the radio trailer because it isn’t something you can visualise it is just listened to. These results were not the best because just under half of our audience said no which was going to be an issue. Therefor we went back to our radio trailer and re did the unclear parts which made a massive improvement on our trailer. This helped us a lot because we knew what to improve and we will now be achieving a better grade.

Page 10: Evaluation question 3

WERE THE PARTS TAKEN FROM THE DOCUMENTARY USEFUL/ SUCCESSFUL?

THE RADIO TRAILER

verysome of themnot atall

We decided to use parts out of the documentary so that the radio trailer would relate to it. Also, it would give the audience an idea of what they were going to be watching and hopefully get them wanting to see more. The results of this question were very pleasing because the audience clearly felt that the sections we had chosen; vox pops and music worked well with the trailer and explained what the documentary was like clearly. We wanted the audience to be intrigued straight away and give suspension so that they needed to know more.

Page 11: Evaluation question 3

DID THE MAGAZINE SUCCESSFULLY PROMOTE THE DOCUMENTARY?

MAGAZINE

very well

sort of not atall

012345

Series1

This was also very important because the double page spread was the advertise the documentary as well. The results show that the same amount of people said ‘very well’ as well as ‘sort of’. I think that the quotes within the text of the magazine and the images used from screenshots of the interviews in the documentary were the most relatable to the documentary. However, the font and colours didn’t really relate to the documentary at all and that is why I think half of the audience felt that way about the magazine.

Page 12: Evaluation question 3

DOES THE MAGAZINE LOOK PLEASING AND CATCH YOUR EYE?

MAGAZINE

yes

no

0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

Series1

We wanted the magazine to stand out from others so that it would catch the audience’s eye and make them want to read more. Therefor we used big font for the titles and a bright red colour, so that it would stand out. We also put large images on the front to catch their attention and want to know more. The results I would say are successful on this question; even though 2 people said no, I felt that the rest of the audience were pleased and that says the majority vote felt the magazine overall worked well and was interesting.

Page 13: Evaluation question 3

OVERALL, DO YOU THINK ANYTHING NEEDS IMPROVEMENT?

yesno

This shows that there were around 2 people who felt that there were some things that could be improved

• One person wrote that they felt the sound quality of the radio trailer needed to be more upbeat and loud because they felt they couldn’t really hear it and it didn’t link well with the fast paced music because it was slower and not as upbeat.

• Another person felt that we needed to re-think the colours used in the magazine. They felt that it didn’t relate to the documentary enough however the images and the quotes used took over the fact that the colours weren’t relatable there for we did not change this.

If yes please explain….

EXTRA FEEDBACK “excellent use of voice over” “very clear and effective” “good music choice” “well edited”

This was also useful to us because it boosted our confidence and we could then see what we had successfully put together and what the audience thought of it.

IN CONCLUSIONGetting audience feedback is one of the most crucial points of the whole process. This is because we need a real target audience to tell us how they feel; we may think something looks good which doesn’t actually appeal to the target audience we are aiming for. We have been able to change/ improve things that we have got from our feedback and it has really helped us with our work. Overall, we found we have done a successful job on our documentary and radio trailer the most- maybe not as much on the magazine, however altogether we feel happy with what we have created.
