Evaluation Question 3: What have you learnt

from your audience feedback?

By Joe Lever

Page 2: Evaluation Question 3

• In order to create a product that would appeal to my target audience and promote the band in the most effective way possible I gathered and considered audience feedback from people who would be in my target audience to find out what they liked and what they thought could be improved with my music video. Audience feedback allowed me to acknowledge what the target audience look for and think about the product that I had already created. The feedback acquired was primarily from those within my target audience but I also received feedback from family members and members of staff at college and my workplace. I also gained audience feedback for my rough cut from social media – this is displayed on a presentation on my blog entitled: ‘Audience Feedback for Rough Cut’.

Questionnaires

• Questionnaires were extremely useful in allowing me the opportunity to collect data from my target audience. I asked 15 of my peers, all within my target audience to complete the questionnaire so that I could find out what people thought the strengths and weaknesses of my music video were so that I could improve my final product. My target audience are males/females between 16 and 23/students as these are the people that usually are associated with listening to the Indie Rock genre. I will screenshot and attach completed questionnaires from a male and a female perspective in order to display the format of the questionnaire.

Conclusion/Results• Based on the feedback I have received, I have concluded that my target

audience enjoy the structure of the music video – combining the narrative with shots of live performance. The lip-syncing and syncing of instruments is also considered a strength due to the fine and complex editing of intricate sequences. People have also commented on my use of filters, informing me that they believe the use of a black and white filter, and a green filter links well to the song’s content as well as adding an artistic undertone to the music video.

• One thing that had been commented on several times was the lack of shots of the guitarist and so I added many shots of the guitarist and edited the solo to display a variety of shots and movements so that the guitar saw as much focus as the drummer as both instruments are important in the song. Also, many people said that the video could use complex and quicker editing to appeal to the viewer and make it stand out more. Following this feedback, I implemented quicker cuts and shortened any shots that I felt were unnecessarily long; I matched the editing with the tempo in order to create a music video that was fluent, memorable and captivating.
