How did we attract the audience?Within my film opening ‘Alice’, I had to decide on my intended

target audience, it was important to decide on the target audience first, this is because to ensure that my film opening included key elements that related to the audience. Therefore by deciding on a target audience, it was then easier to establish what key features and elements should be included. However due to the fact that my main character was a young girl, it was much easier for the audiences to connect with our character Alice, this is because our target audience is girls and boys aged between 10 to 17 years old. This has attracted the attention of the audience as they felt a sense of important, because Alice has psychological illness and the target audience are her age and this would attract them to watch the full movie and they would want to know what else happens.

How does your thriller hold the audience’s attention?

The way our thriller movie holds the audiences attention is the intense and mysterious music we have in the background which is grabbing the attention of the audience as something epic is going to happen in the movie. However looking back at feedback the majority of the audience said the music was building tension throughout the video because of the good use of the music.

In addition, the other way our thriller movie has attracted the audience is the setting of our opening which is based in the graveyard. However before we had started filming we made a focus group and asked people about what location we should use for our opening, therefore looking back the results most people said having a psychological thriller genre its more appealing to have a graveyard setting. This is because it would be building tension and the audience would have full attention as something major is going to happen and they will be looking forward to watch all the movie.

Why would they want to carry on watching after your opening has ended?The main reason why the audience

would want to carry on watching the whole movie is the last shot when the stalker catches Alice he garbs her from the hair and says ‘I know what you done?’ in the mysterious and creepy voice. Therefore the audience would be thinking that something has happened and they would be eager to know what Alice has done in the past. This is because it is bringing questions to the audience mind and we decided to end our opening in a dramatic scene so its bringing back all the audience.

In addition, the last scene of the opening is a shot on the phone Alice was playing with at the start and the head bow she was wearing is on the floor. This brings tension and questions on the audience mind of what has happened to Alice from the last scene when the stalker says ‘I know what you done?’. Therefore the audience would be eager to know what happened as they would want to watch the full movie, this is because young children are always impatience from watching the trailers of movie and are eager to watch the full movie. As a result of this we have ended our opening in a dramatic scene to make the audience want to watch the full movie.

Audience Feedback Looking back at the pervious slides the reason how we have attracted

them and why they would carry on watching the full movie is quiet similar to the audiences feedback. What the audience have enjoyed was the music helped build tension and it was built throughout the opening and they had said they would want to watch the full movie to see what has happened. Furthermore most people like the location, this is because they had said it made it look dramatic when it was in the graveyard as it was creepy and scary. The audience had also said that the title of the opening was effective which is called ‘Alice’ and they liked the representation of the character Alice, therefore the title and the characters name being Alice brings questions to the audience mind and they know throughout the whole movie the main focus is Alice. As a result of this we have addressed the audience because we have taken in consideration the key elements that would attract a wide range of audience to continue watching the full movie after the ending of the opening.
