Evaluation question 7 – Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? Looking back to the start of the year when we filmed our preliminary task, all of our skills were very basic when filming, directing and editing as everything was very new. Back then, we didn’t have the right skill set to make a short film however, looking back I believe that our skills have become much more advanced due to the practice and determination of trying to make things perfect and using the hardware and software over and over again. In my opinion I think that this is shown in our final main task. When filming our preliminary task, a main negative that fell upon us was the noise of the wind when filming outside and the quality of the shots when we came back to edit them. As we got to use the equipment more and finally when we came to film our main task, we decided to film the majority of our shots inside so wind wasn’t a problem. Also, to make the quality of the shots better, I found a way by looking online to change the colour, contrast and brightness of each take to make them look more professional which I believe worked very well. - Main task shot - Preliminary Task Looking at the difference between the shots you can clearly see the improvement between the shots from the preliminary to the main task. The shot on the left shows the increase in temperature of the shot giving it a much better quality look compared to the shot on the left from our preliminary which is unedited.

- Main task shot - Preliminary Task

Looking at the difference between the shots you can clearly see the improvement between the shots from the preliminary to the main task. The shot on the left shows the increase in temperature of the shot giving it a much better quality look compared to the shot on the left from our preliminary which is unedited.

We also learned to use a bigger variety of shots in our main task compared to our preliminary as our range in shots before were very basic but this cam through not knowing much knowledge about the amount and variety of shots there were. Another thing we have learned from our preliminary task is the steadiness of the camera using all the components on the tripod and making sure they were fully tightened.

Another way in which we improved our main task by learning from our preliminary task was the use of the sound and the mise-en-scene. We imported many more diegetic sounds in our task as it conformed to our genre and gave it much better quality and made it look much more professional. We chose to use many more props, with each character having a specific set specified to them. Also, we

wanted to import more background mise-en-scene to make it seem more realistic and for it look like more of a real, high end film. An example of this is in the scene when the leader, Micky G is

introduced.

Shown in the red circle is the names of all the team, Micky G, Dwayne, Danny, Stan and George. This is an example of how we have improved the mise-en-scene in our main task.
