evaluation question three
TRANSCRIPT
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
AUDIENCE FEEDBACK
Audience feedback is very important, because it allows any last minute changes to the; narrative of the music video, the lighting, costume and setting of all three media products.
QUESTIONNAIRE
Questionnaire and focus group
My group found the questionnaire analysis very useful because the results we were given were taken in consideration for one of the settings of my music video.
Most popular question was, question 8 in questionnaire, which about the setting.
Majority chose Casual and a club setting
Therefore we had decided to ensure we have a casual and club setting so we meet a wider range of audiences needs.
FOCUS GROUPOur main aim from our focus group was to find out a USP for our music video. Our fellow student answered that we should provide a major role in the video for the female character. This was one of the most interesting points we found out through our focus group recording. This was relevant and we applied it to our music video because our original artist to the song Sunshine (Lupe Fiasco) was against female characters being shows as ‘sex symbols.’
IMPACT OF FOCUS GROUP The questionnaire analysis and focus group analysis
has a huge impact on my story board staging as before we were reconsidering of the idea of using a bar/club. However, by conducting the questionnaire analysis and recording of focus group, we had learnt a lot about the settings of the genre and that the audience do expect there to be a bar/club in my music video.
FOCUS GROUP Subverted codes and conventions of Hip Hop music
videos.
Focus group suggested that we should ensure that the female character is given a major role in the music video as well.
This is not very common in Hip-Hop music videos
Akon’s music video- Smack that. You are able to see that females are being shown as ‘sex symbols’ and
have not been given a predominant role in the music video.
In our music video.. Despite our song being a male oriented song, as it’s
sung by a male and is about him. Our artist has shown high regards to the girl he’s trying to get. Through lyrics analysis we had realised that our artist shows great respect for the female character he’s trying to praise. Especially the line, ‘ had a feeling that it would be a day like this, the orchestra in my mind don’t play like this.’
....Metaphorically he explains his feelings for the
female character, therefore as our lyrics and artist (through artist research) are against the codes and conventions of Hip Hop music video’s of showing; ‘bling’, profanity, crime and violence. We had decided that we will follow majority of the codes and conventions of Hip-Hop music videos. However, subvert the one’s I have talked about above.
Audience feedback Target audience
Age range
Male/female
Lupe fiasco (original artist) against the conventional features of showing female’s as sex symbols, so we decided to dress the male and female smartly.
Target audience Our target audience was generally youth and adults.
However, we wanted to construct a music video that would appeal to everyone.
The major theme in our music video is love, and love has no age. Therefore, our target audience can be anyone and everyone.
Keeping in mind, our aim of pleasing and meeting the needs of all audiences, we ensured that there was no crime, violence or profanity behaviour in our music video or ancillary text. This would increase the audience of our music video ensuring better and more sales.
After production I had made a group on facebook and had asked 10
students about what they thing about our music video and Digi Pak.
This was useful because small things can make big changes. Therefore, we had decided that if there were any small negative feedbacks given which were possible to change we would do so.
COMMENTS ON MY GROUP PAGE FOR AUDIENCE FEEDBACK ON ALL THREE PRODUCTS
Positive feedback: Variety of shots
especially the low angle shot, zoom out
to the bridge.
Our setting was taken in consideration through the
help of questionnaire analysis (another form of
audience feedback).
...
The slow motion effect was used through deep analysis of similar case studies and Andrew
Goodwin’s theory about relationship between music and visuals. During the analysis of my similar case studies, I had found out that the
transitions of shots is very important to stay in sink with the beat.
...
The link between all the products was our plus point. This enables the audience to identify one of the
products if seen a different one already. For example; if someone had seen our Digi Pak, they will be able to
identify our music video due to the same clothing and graffiti setting we have used in all the three products.
..
Making sure that there was something similar about all three of our media products was
hard, yet proven to be very effective. As all our audience feedback

Overall Positive feedback
Different kinds of feedback from each person
We had shown our focus group our first draft of our digi pak and they gave us ideas how to improve it: posture, back cover- track list not clear., changing the arrangement of our track list etc.
I have shown the build up to my original Digi Pak in my blog in the section flat plans of Digi Pak and advert.
