GENDER
The typical film noir is usually a hard boiled
detective based story where there is a lot of crime
based content. This would be more appealing to
males stereotypically as it contains violence,
scenes of a sexual nature and crime. Our target
audience is typically males as we have focused on
these three features and made it a priority that
there is femme fatale to attract male attention.
AGEFilm noir is often depicted as an ‘artsy’ genre due to the depth of
cinematography. The audience tend to be more of a mature, older group
of people due to the amount of innuendos used during dialogue that
might not be grasped by less mature people. This in mind, the age we
decided to target was 30-60 year olds (middle aged men).
Our sequence has the main theme of the
hard boiled detective investigating a crime,
this is also the main theme of many film noir
films due to it being a key convention, The Big
Combo (1955) has a similar plot to our
sequence mainly because of one of the main
themes being the hard boiled detective trying
to investigate a crime, it also uses the femme
fatal factor which is also used in our sequence
, the big combo mainly appeals to the male
section of the audience , mainly because of
the crime factor that is shown in the film and
the use of the femme fatal to attract more
men , the age range of this film ranges from
30-60 year olds , this is because film noir films
are genuinely sophisticated films with a
intriguing plot.
Because our target audience was 30-60 year old males ( middle age men ) ,
we decided to use some of the more well known classic factors of film noir in
our sequence , we used the theme of crime / murder because we knew that
this theme was one of the main contributing factors that the male audience
enjoy , we also used a small chase scene to add a small piece of action which
appeals towards the male side of the audience , the use of close up shots on
the killer emphasizes the since of danger which links in well with the action ,
we also used the theme of mystery which will keep the audience intrigued and
interested in what happens next , we did this at the end of the chase scene
between ellie and the killer , the sense of mystery was created by the screen
cutting to black (post production), during the detective and informer scene a
series of point of view shots combined with the shot reverse shot technique to
show the audience the point of perspective of both the detective and the
informer during the exchange scene ,some match on action shots are also
used on the money and the information to show the audience that these
objects are the main point of focus.
AUDIENCE FEEDBACK
We received feedback and productive criticism
from our audience and we were pleased with the
positive feedback and we used this effectively to
improve our final media product ( opening sequence)
, we also managed to correct any errors that were
pointed out by the audience ,overall we were pleased
with our final sequence .
