It is like a manual for amateurs on how to search and what to look for when searching for connections to ancestry. The book starts off my asking your basic “Who was your great-grandmother?” question and the fact that your great grand-mother does affect your life in a larger way than most people think or know. The author describes the search for ancestors as more than just collecting names but as a journey that takes you into strange places and that it is more than just “digging up bones” but as a way to gain more knowledge in all aspects of life. The author goes more in depth and says that you cannot just recollect artifacts or documents but that you have to look into those times and the surroundings of the era and have an understanding of where these things come from to truly understand why and how. That you have to become interested in the times and try to “become” a part of those times, basically try to place yourself in their shoes.

In Search of My Ancestors: Evaluative Works Cited

Doane, Gilbert H. Searching for Your Ancestors: The How and Why of Genealogy.

Minneapolis: University of Minnesota Press, 1960. Print.

This book is about how to trace back ancestry though the use of documents such as wills, letters, town records and much more.

I looked up the author of this book and found out that he was a professor and worked as a librarian and director of the library at the University of Wisconsin. He was also an Archivist and during WW2 was sent to Germany to help restore and conserve Nazi stolen objects such as paintings and artifacts.

Gumucio, Marcelo A. In Search of My Ancestors: From Vizcaya to California. Ann

Miller, M2 Design, Inc., Apr. 2008. Web.

This book is about a man named Marcelo Gumucio, who is possibly a relative of mine that has gone in search of his ancestors. He has traced back all, the way from Spaniard rule in the 1400s to the present, which for him is his home in California. He has gone to Bolivia and Spain and has met relatives with the Gumucio last name and

has gone to properties owned by Gumucios’ and has studied the different coats of arms that the different lineages of Gumucios’ have.

He really goes into detail into how the lineage starts especially for his side of the Gumucio family or it could also possibly be mine as well. But he visits all theses places and obtains artifacts and documents pertaining to his search.

This book will help me in connecting the dots to my family history and ancestry and seeing if his search and connections are related to my searches.

"Gumucio Directory." Gumucio Directory. N.p., n.d. Web. 25 Mar. 2014.

So this is a website all about Gumucios’. From blogs to articles to pictures, this website dedicates itself to promoting anything Gumucio. Some of the things that I have found have been helpful, for example blogs of people with the last name Gumucio but then other things that I have found have not been so helpful because they have not been updated or kept up with. In this website I found the Marcelo Gumucio book in both the Spanish and English versions so I did get lucky with that.

I still have a lot to cover with this website and what else I can find. I have seen pictures of people but unfortunately I do not know who they are but I can always ask my family members and see if they know.

Sulc, Lourdes. Facebook interview. 4 Mar. 2014.

So recently I interviewed one of my cousins who grew up in Bolivia with my grandmother and has lots of information regarding our ancestry. She has not only given me valuable information but has sent me pictures of my great-grandmother, my grandmother and my father as a child. These pictures are amazing!!

In regards to the interview, she did confirm to me that we did have ancestors move from Czech Republic to Bolivia at some point and that her mom, my aunt, has confirmed it to her as well. She also let me know that we have politicians and royalty in the family lineage, which makes my search even cooler now.

What was a great outcome of this interview what that I sparked in my cousin the desire to search for our ancestors again, and she said because of what I was doing she was going to start and pass it down to her daughters, which I thought was really cool.
