Today is Communion Sunday! The United Methodist Church practices open com-munion. Everyone is invited to partake in the Lord’s Supper, regardless of church affiliation.

Our Purl Girls Knitters Group is in need of donations of yarn for the mission projects they are working on. Preferred brands are "I Love This Cotton Yarn" (from Hobby Lobby - brighter colors used for chemo hats) and 4-ply knitting worsted acrylic yarn...dark and medium colors (shades of dark green, shades of dark blue, black,

brown, cranberry, deep red, etc). Yarn may be dropped off in the office or in the “Yarn Barn” closet in the Bride’s room (just off of the small kitchen) on the sanctu-ary level. For info. call the office at 632-8381. Thanks!

Men of EUM, join us for an hour as we dedicate ourselves in prayer to pray for God’s continued guidance and blessing on the men of this church. We meet the first Wednesday of every month at 5:30 p.m. in the new Crossbearers Room. Eve-ryone is welcome; feel free to invite a friend or two!

Attention all EUM Men! The next Men's Breakfast will be Saturday, October 8th. Come grab a cup of coffee at 7:45 and catch-up with old friends or make some new ones. Core: Leadership and Ministry

• Makes up approximately 10/15% of the membership and is the

most committed to Christ and to the ministry of the local church. • Accept a large responsibility for the ongoing mission and ministry.

• Most faithful in vows: prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. • Desire to grow spiritually.

• They do not get offended as often and understand regular and sacri-

ficial giving habits. • This is the part of church that can be the most honest, where truth is

spoken in love and understood in that framework.

Committed: Maturing Members

• Faithful in their worship attendance, these people often show up for

church school or Bible study, and they support programs of the church.

• Church is important to these folks, but they tend to speak in terms of what they receive versus what they give to the church.

• They tend to perceive church as something they belong to rather

than something they are a part of – a club, versus a body. • They are comfortable in church; therefore, they can be resistant to

change. • They may have strong opinions about everything, but they are not

always faithful.

• The majority of a churches programming is directed to these peo-ple.

• They want the church to succeed, to thrive, and even to grow; how-ever, they do not want growth to cause too much change, nor do they want the church’s health to cost too much.

Congregation: Members

• This group does church on Sunday – but are not involved in much else.

• They are faithful to Sunday’s for “God-fixes” but little else.

• We need and want these people in our churches and we are grateful to have them; but a church would not survive long based on the good will of this group alone.

• They view church as consumers – the Church exists to serve their needs.

• They tend to be the most offended with money talk.

• They are not always clear about the mission and ministry of the church.

• They give to causes and less to budget.

• Mixing metaphors: Core is on the field; Committed are on the side-lines; Congregation is in the stands.

Crowd: Regular Attenders • Some may call these folks the Christmas and Easter crowd.

• They often do not believe that it makes a difference to them whether they are part of a church community or not – they feel they can be spiritual on their own.

• They have a very limited understanding of what the church is and does.

• They view the pastor as the paid professional who “runs” the

church. They do not understand the concept of “equipping the saints.”

• They need to have their need for connectedness awaken, as well as

their need for interdependence.

COMMUNITY MEAL AT

ST. RICHARD’S Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

Served: 4:30pm – 6:30pm

Community Meal at St. Richard’s is a meal provided to the needy.

Our church along with several others in the community take turns

making the meal and serving the public at the location. We are

known for our taco salads. We have to buy all the ingredients, cook

what is needed and serve it in an assembly line fashion on that night.

We typically serve 100 – 120 people on that night and here

is a list of the donated ingredients needed:

50 lb. hamburger 2 boxes of Sam’s tortilla chips

1 large can of refried beans 3 large containers of salsa

30 heads of lettuce- shredded 3 large sour cream containers

40 lbs. shredded cheese 40 tomatoes- chopped

2 bags of onions- chopped 8 gallons of milk

1 large jar jalapeño peppers

What we need from you is one of 2 things:

1. No time but still want to do your part - You can donate money today to put towards the cost of buying the items to make taco

salads. Just write “Community Meal at St. Richard’s” on your en-

velope.

2. Time to buy and/or prep food at home – SIGN UP TODAY on the sheet at the info desk or call Sandy Langenfeld (634-6252

rakes, brooms, step ladders, buckets & smiles. Clean-up will begin at 9:00 am. Come up to Fellowship Hall for instruc-

tions. But wait, come by between 8:15 and 9:00 and the men of EUM will even feed you breakfast!! We have a sign-up table in the narthex so you can choose the way you

EUM Day at HALO

Saturday, November 5th

Once again the HALO staff and participants are getting excited that “EUM Day” is coming soon. I hope we are all getting excited about the chance to be Christ’s hands and feet for the homeless of Racine County. While many groups do come from time to time for special events or to help out, no group had ever come in such numbers and did so much for them in one day. I saw that God was very faithful in keeping that seed that we planted safe in their hearts, I hope we can once again go back to HALO with no plan above showing them that God loves them, therefore we do too, regardless of their current ability to be lovable. - Kevin Cookman, Mobilize Committee Chair

This year we will arrange for the handyman projects like painting and repairs to be done on a different day, so that this work can be done when the shelter is empty and there will be no worries about things like children and wet paint, or a room being needed for a class in a short time.

What are some things you can do to help:

• Help cook a meal for the HALO participants.

• Eat a meal with some participants and get to know them. • Help care for children, playing games and making crafts with them. • Help with a Bible Study. • Help with a class or practice on interviewing, budgeting, parenting, other life and work skills.

• Lead a class on meditation, yoga, or how to make an adult craft. • Use your medical training to take blood pressures or provide other services. • Help with an organization project. • Help supply food or funds for food for the day.

• Pray that on the day we will touch the hearts of those at HALO whom God is calling to be his.

• Give us some new ideas for ways to help those at HALO and then help lead that ac-tivity.

We currently have signup sheets in the Narthex for the various times and activities we hope to accomplish at HALO. Take some time to pray for God to give you courage, that this year you will not wonder “what am I qualified to do”, but will ask “how will God use me this year” and then watch him help others through you.
