INTRODUCTION:

The EVAP-TECH evaporative media have been designed to provide adiabatic cooling and

humidification for high performance applications such as evaporative coolers, air handling units and

data center cooling. These applications require the highest possible performance with minimal

maintenance and must comply with high hygiene standards.

Hydro Chill fin technology is a combination between a special fin structure and thin water-retaining

coating, designed to keep pressure drop at minimum while delivering evaporation efficiencies that

exceed 90%.

Its modular design offers customers

the necessary flexibility to

accommodate for different airflow

capacities as required in their

product portfolios while

maintaining the individual

component performance

characteristics. On top of this, the

permanent antibacterial and

antimicrobial coating reduces

microbial activity with 99.99%

during its entire lifetime.

COOLING PRINCIPLE:

Direct evaporative cooling is a natural cooling

method that cools and humidifies the

airstream. During the cooling season hot intake

(outdoor) air flows through the soaked EVAP-

TECH TECH media and is cooled down by the

adiabatic evaporation process whereby the

energy to evaporate the water comes from the

air itself. The cool and saturated supply air

approached the wet-bulb temperature and can

be provided to the indoor environment or used

for other purposes.

EVAP TECH reduce air conditioner load by cooling the air that surrounds air conditioner

condensers.

HOW IT WORKS:

EVAP TECH boosts the effectiveness of air

conditioners by reducing the effective

temperature of the air surrounding the

outdoor section of the unit. Because the air

temperature is lowered, the condensing

section can release more heat to the outside

and the refrigerant cycle can work more

effectively. Evaporative cooling relies on

the principle that water molecules absorb

the heat of evaporation causing the

surrounding airstream to cool.

It also relies on the principle that the

cooler air has more capacity to absorb heat.

It works best in hot, dry climates.

the same principle as

traditional direct

evaporative coolers,

sometimes called

swamp coolers.

However, pre coolers

do not add humidity to

the air within the

conditioned space like

evaporative coolers do.

This is because the

evaporative effect is

utilized on the outside

section of the air

conditioner to boost its

effectiveness, not

within a system that

delivers air directly

into the space.

Systems that utilize

both technologies are also available. Two stage, or direct/indirect coolers use an air-to-water heat

exchanger / pre cooler which reduces the incoming air temperature without raising the relative

humidity, then puts the incoming air through a direct evaporation stage, further reducing its

temperature.

HOW IT SAVES ENERGY:

In hot, dry conditions, evaporative pre-coolers of this type can reduce the cooling cost by 24%. It is

easy to imagine that an air conditioner will not need to run as long when the condensing section is

transferring heat more effectively. This measure works extremely well during the hottest

temperatures and so has the potential to save peak demand.

EVAPORATIVE CONDENSER PRE-COOLING UNITS:

EVAP-COOL TECH evaporative pre-cooling systems increase the efficiency and capacity of chiller

groups and dry refrigerants, offering a COP 35% increase in effectiveness. They are economical and

environmentally friendly.

The condenser air inlet of the air-cooled chillers is cooled by EVAPTECH units with a very low cost.

Easily-to-install on all types of condensers, the evaporative cooling pads are kept moist by simple water

circulation. The air is pulled through the pads and then through the condensers by the existing fans

of the condenser. The wet pads cool the air to wet bulb temperature, which becomes cooler before

entering the condenser.

Using the air cooled in this manner, the condenser works much more effectively enabling the increase

of the cooling performance

and the decrease in the

energy consumption of the

chiller. The break-down risks

decrease, the system and the

condenser lifetime increased

together with the global

working performance of the

system.

WHY EVAP TECH?

The table below illustrates the savings for Air

cooled condensers using and not using the Pre Cool

Tech unit. The energy used by the Chiller is

decreased by 19 % and the cooling capacity is

increased by 11% as a result of an 11°C decrease in

inlet air.

The condenser effectiveness increases on average by 2% with every 1.8°C decrease of air inlet

temperature achieved by the pre-cooling pads.

HOW EVAP TECH WORKS:

The efficiency of any A/C system is dependent on the temperature difference between the air being

supplied to the system and the output temperature of the air which is used to cool the area being

cooled. This output temperature is dependent on the efficiency of the chiller system and decreases as

the outdoor ambient temperature rises. EVAP TECH system cools the intake air temperature of the

air cooling the condensing coil of the A/C system thereby reducing this difference and increasing the

efficiency of the system.

COST SAVINGS:

In the heat of summer this can reduce the peak electrical

consumption of the A/C system by more than 50%. This

system has been successfully used for many years for

energy conservation and was pioneered in Australia and

the USA. Because the efficiency and output of evaporative

cooling increase when the temperatures increases, the

system eliminates any operating peaks, removing the

requirement for additional expenditure on increasing

generating capacities to satisfy peak demand conditions.

EVAP-TECH TECH EFFICIENCY

By reducing the intake air temperature with Pre-Cooling, improved operating efficiency is achieved

which provides lower operating costs, increased cooling capacity, extended equipment life, and

increased profits.

LOWER CAPITAL COST:

The Pre-Cooling system pre cools the air to allow the same level of cooling to be achieved with a

smaller capacity chiller. This means initial capital outlay is drastically reduced along with the on-

going operating costs.

EXTEND LIFE CYCLES:

An A/C system using Pre-Cooling operates in a far cooler and cleaner environment than normal,

reducing the load on the system giving the equipment a longer life span, higher productivity with less

maintenance needed.

EVAP-TECH TECH COMPONENTS:

The EVAP-KOOL TECH pad is a modular "plug and play" highly efficient direct evaporative cooling

pad including an aluminum frame with integrated water distribution for use in compact direct

evaporative cooling and humidification systems. Its modular design offers customers the necessary

flexibility to accommodate for different airflow capacities as required in their product portfolios while

maintaining the individual component performance characteristics.

The evaporative media is based upon our unique and

patented water retaining finned aluminum sheet

designed for maximum evaporation. At an air

velocity of 2 m/s, we reach a saturation efficiency of

90% with an air pressure drop of only 44 Pa.

The EVAP TECH can be applied in air handling

units for both the air humidification and for

adiabatic cooling. It can also be applied as a droplet

eliminator in combination with a high-pressure

spray system for air humidification.

The EVAP TECH is also very suitable for

applications to pre-cool the air for a condenser coil in

a traditional air conditioner.

Another interesting application is to use the

EVAPTECH to adiabatically cool the air before a

condenser coil in a traditional air conditioning

system, giving the following important benefits:
