    BAPTISMBAPTISMBAPTISMBAPTISMBAPTISM

Good morning, children. I would like

us to start by singing the song I’m a New

    Creation.

    I’m a new creation

    I’m a brand new man

    Old things have passed away

    I’ve been born again.

    More than a conqueror

    That’s what I am

    I’m a new creation

    I’m a brand new man

Praise the Lord. I am excited to have

this privilege to share with you. A couple

weeks ago I was asking the Lord what

He wanted me to share with you. Some-

times I have lots of thoughts. Do you

have lots of thoughts and ideas going

through your head? Sometimes it is very

good to have lots of ideas. But when I

went to the Lord and asked Him what was

the most important thing He wanted me

to share with you, He spoke to me about

    water baptism.

How many of you have not been wa-

ter baptized? Raise your hand, please.

Well, then, today I have something to talk

about that you are going to find very in-

teresting. How many of you have been

baptized in water? Then, this is going to

be a refresher and I believe the Lord will

speak something to you, too, because He

sure did to me when I was looking into

    the Word about water baptism.

Whenever we talk about certain prin-

ciples of faith, certain things that we be-

lieve, there is a picture that God gives us

in the Bible which shows us every stage

of our walk with the Lord. Do you know

    what that picture is?

    Anna: The tabernacle.

That’s right. It is the tabernacle. So,

we are going to talk a little bit about the

  • K.I.T. for KIDS 4 October 2009

tabernacle and I am going to need some

help. What is the first thing we draw

    when we draw the tabernacle?

    Caroline: The Outer Court.

Very good. Would you draw it for us?

Also, let us draw a smaller rectangle in-

side the bigger rectangle. This is the Holy

Place and the Holy of Holies. Who knows

what the first piece of furniture in the tab-

    ernacle is?

    Caleb: The Brazen Altar.

    Very good. What does the

    Brazen Altar represent?

    Josiah: Death to sin.

    That’s right, it represents

the cross or death to sin.

    Now, when the priest went

    into the tabernacle, what

would he do at the Brazen

    Altar?

    Isaac: He killed the ani-

    mal.

Yes, the sacrifice was given, the blood

was shed. Why was the blood shed?

    Josiah: Because it symbolizes Jesus

dying on the cross for us.

Yes, the blood was shed as an atone-

ment for sin. What happens with us at

the Brazen Altar as you and I journey in

our life as a Christian? What is it that

    takes place in our life?

Anna: We ask Jesus into our heart.

If you have asked Jesus into your heart,

raise your hands. Very good, we have all

gone to the Brazen Altar and asked Jesus

into our heart. The Blood that Jesus shed

for us was given that we might be free

from death and sin. We open up our

hearts at the Brazen Altar and say, “Jesus,

we want You to come in and cleanse us

from all sin.” Did He do that for you

when you asked Him? Did He come into

your heart? Yes, He did! Absolutely!

Jesus gave His life for us that we could

be saved. It was a free gift. Did any of

you have to pay for it? Did Jesus say,

    “Give Me $10.00 and you

can have it.”? No! He gave

it to us freely. Don’t you

think that was the best gift

    you have ever received?

Jesus giving His life for you?

    Absolutely!

So, that is where we are

    with the Brazen Altar. Now,

what is the next piece of fur-

    niture in the Tabernacle?

    Anna: Brazen Laver.

Okay, can you draw that for us? Very

good. At the Brazen Altar the priest has

come and the sacrifice has been made.

What happens when he comes to the Bra-

    zen Laver?

    Rebecca: He washes his hands.

That’s right, he washes his hands. The

    Brazen Laver represents baptism and

death to self. This is where we enter into

a covenant with Jesus. Who can draw a

    three-dimensional box for me? Isaiah.

All right, now we have our three-dimen-

  • K.I.T. for KIDS 5 October 2009

sional box. Baptism has what is called

three dimensions. Who knows what the

    first dimension of baptism is?

    Isaac: Natural.

That’s right, and the natural is water

baptism. What is the second dimension

    of baptism?

    Anna: The Holy Spirit.

It is spiritual, the baptism into the Holy

Spirit. And what is the third baptism?

    Josiah: Fullness.

Fullness, which is the baptism into

Christ. Today, we are going to talk about

the first dimension, which is water bap-

    tism.

Water baptism also has three stages to

it. Number 1: sanctification. What does

that mean? It is a big word, isn’t it? Sanc-

    tification basically means the washing

away of the stains of sin. The sacrifice

was made, the blood is on the priest’s

hands, he washes his hands and the stains

are removed. That is sanctification. The

scripture that came to me is written in II

Corinthians 5:17, Therefore if any man

be in Christ, he is a new creature: old

    things are

    passed away;

    behold, all

    things are be-

    come new.

    The stains of

    sin are washed

    away.

    Number 2:

    c o n s e c r a t i o n .

    That’s another

    big word, isn’t

    it? Do we

    know what con-

    s e c r a t i o n

means? Consecration is when you take

something that has been cleansed and you

put it aside to be used for one specific

thing only. When they made the pieces

for the Tabernacle, they weren’t supposed

to use them for a king’s feast, were they?

No, they were specifically made for the

Tabernacle; they were to be used for God.

Part of baptism is that we are saying that

we want to be used only for the Lord.

    That is consecration.

Number 3: baptism. Baptism is when

you covenant with God. What does cov-

    enant mean?

    Rachel: A promise.

Yes, it is a promise. You are making a

promise to God that your life belongs

completely to Him. You are saying that

every right that you have to be angry, ev-

ery right that you have to have a bad atti-

tude, every right that you consider yours,

    you are giving to Jesus.

We talked about the Brazen Altar.

What happened there? Jesus gave us a

free gift. Salvation is free. What hap-

pens at baptism? Is baptism free? No. It

costs you something, because you are giv-

ing a gift. At the Brazen Altar Jesus gave

us a gift, but at the Brazen Laver, we are

  • K.I.T. for KIDS 6 October 2009

giving back to Jesus. He gave His life

for us and here we are giving our life to

Him. At the Brazen Altar Jesus becomes

our Savior; He saves us. At the Brazen

Laver we make Jesus the Lord of our life,

the King of our life. We are giving up

our own life so that He would be our

    King.

Baptism is like a marriage ceremony.

Who likes weddings? What happens at a

wedding? You have a bride and you have

a groom and they get married. They make

promises; they make vows to each other.

Have you ever been to a wedding where

the groom made vows to the bride and

the bride didn’t say anything back? No!

A marriage is a promise between two

people, they both make it. That is what

happens with us in water baptism: we are

making an agreement with Jesus and He

is making an agreement with us. We are

making a covenant. This is what hap-

pens when you desire to be baptized in

    water.

If you have your Bible, let’s turn to

Matthew 3:13 and let’s read a story about

    baptism. Who is the first

    person in the Bible

    that you think

    about when you

    think about

    baptism?

    Isaiah: John

    t h e Baptist.

    Absolutely. Well, we are

going to read a little story about him.

Matthew 3:13, Then cometh Jesus from

Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be bap-

tized of him. 14But John forbad him,

saying, I have need to be baptized of thee,

and comest thou to me? Now, can you

    imagine the situation? John recognized

that Jesus was the Messiah. He is bap-

tizing the people saying, “Repent, prepare

ye the way for the Lord.” And here comes

Jesus, the One Whom he has been preach-

ing about and Jesus says, “Baptize Me.”

John says, “Are You kidding? I should

be baptized by You!” But Jesus answer-

ing said unto him, Suffer it to be so now:

for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righ-

teousness (verse 15). Jesus is saying, “It

is necessary for me to do this. Then he

suffered him. 16And Jesus, when he was

baptized, went up straightway out of the

water: and, lo, the heavens were opened

unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God

descending like a dove, and lighting

upon him: 17And lo a voice from heaven,

saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom

I am well pleased. Jesus was baptized to

show us the way we need to follow.

So, I was thinking about why it is so

important for us to follow this pattern,

and a picture came to me. The Bible uses

the word transformed when it talks about

us coming from the state of being a sin-

ner to becoming a son of God, an over-

    comer. Transformed in Greek means

    metamorphoo. Does anybody know what

  • K.I.T. for KIDS 7 October 2009

    that sounds like?

    Isaac: Metamorphosis.

    Yes, metamorphosis. What animal or

a creature do you think of when you think

    of metamorphosis?

    Chris: A caterpillar.

A caterpillar! Chris, could you come

up and draw a caterpillar for me? We see

caterpillars and worms out here on the

farm, don’t we? What happens to a cat-

erpillar or a worm? First of all, are they

pretty? Does anybody think a caterpillar

    is really pretty? No!

    They are not bad, they

    are okay, but compared to

    a butterfly, what would

    you rather have?

    Child: A butterfly.

    So, I’m thinking that when

we first start out our walk

with Jesus, it’s kind of like we

are a caterpillar. Now, what happens to

the caterpillar? What does he become

    when he is totally transformed?

    Chloe: A butterfly.

A butterfly. Chloe, would you come

and draw it for me? You know, the cater-

pillar doesn’t just become a butterfly

overnight, does he? How does that hap-

    pen?

Isaac: It takes a long process.

Yes, it does. He has to go from a cat-

erpillar to a cocoon. Isaac, can you draw

a cocoon for me? Very good. Have you

ever seen a cocoon? Yes. Can the cater-

pillar become a butterfly without going

through the cocoon? No. There are

stages that it takes to become a butterfly.

And so the Lord was showing me even

in water baptism when Jesus said that it

needed to be done to fulfill the righteous-

ness that this is a part of becoming a son

    of God. It’s like becoming a butterfly;

it’s something to fulfill the process of

becoming like Jesus. Do you understand

that? Does it make sense to you?

This whole week I’ve been thinking

    about water baptism and

    reading about it and one

    day we were eating and

    one of my children said

    to me, “You know, Mom,

    I’m thinking about becom-

    ing water baptized.” It almost

    knocked me over, because

none of my children have ever

come and said that to me. And it was at

the same time that I was thinking about

it! So they started to ask questions. One

of the questions was, “Why do we do it

in public? Why do we have to be bap-

tized in front of a bunch of people?” Does

    anybody know why that is?

Mrs. Shaffer: It’s a public announce-

ment that you are a follower of Jesus.

Absolutely. I was thinking about that.

Imagine you were given a million dol-

lars, would you not say anything to any-

body or would you be so blessed by what

you were given that you would tell ev-

  • K.I.T. for KIDS 8 October 2009

erybody, “You’re not going to believe

what was given to me!” That’s what it is

like with water baptism. You are so ex-

cited about what God has done for you

and what He is doing in your life that you

want people to witness what He is doing.

We also talked about water baptism be-

ing like a marriage ceremony and that is

always public. In addition to that, we are

covenanting with the Body of Christ that

    we are following Jesus.

    Another question was: why do

    we have to say something

    when we are baptized? It’s

not really that you have to

    say something, but it’s

    testifying of what Jesus

is to you, what He has

done to your life. It’s not

that you have to say a cer-

tain thing and then you can

    be baptized. It’s just sharing

from your heart what Jesus has done

    for you.

These were the questions that we dis-

cussed in our home. Does anybody here

have any other questions that we haven’t

talked about but you would like to know

the answer to? I have to say I was a little

bit intimidated at the thought of sharing

on water baptism, but when you get into

the Word, it is so much what our walk

with Jesus is - it’s about overcoming; it’s

    about laying down our lives.

Another thought that I want to give

you is that if you desire to be baptized in

water, talk with your parents. Maybe you

    didn’t understand everything we shared

today and they can explain it more and

    answer your questions.

Question from Mrs. Shaffer on the dif-

    ference between baptism in some

churches versus baptism in our church.

There are a lot of baptisms in the

churches. The Catholic Church has bap-

tism; a lot of other churches have bap-

tism. For some of them it is part

of becoming a member of their

    church. That is totally differ-

ent than what we are talk-

    ing about today. You chil-

    dren belong to our church

and you are not water bap-

    tized. The baptism is unto

Jesus, it’s not to a church or

    organization.

    Our memory verse for this

week is Romans 6:3-4, Know ye not, that

so many of us as were baptized into Jesus

Christ were baptized into his death?4Therefore we are buried with him by

baptism into death: that like as Christ

was raised up from the dead by the glory

of the Father, even so we also should

walk in newness of life. I know that this

is a little bit long, but it is so important,

because this is what we believe. That’s

why it’s so important to we could memo-

rize it and hide it in our heart. May the

    Lord bless you all. Amen.

Lesina and his wife arrived late at night, tired out and quitecontent to drink the hot soup Palko had prepared. After ar-ranging the bed with its clean sheets and blankets and the downypillows they had brought with them, they were soon safely tuckedaway for the night.

It was not, therefore, until the following day that Juriga couldbegin to study Lesina’s wife. “Poor thing,” said the old man tohimself, full of pity, “so young, too, not more than twenty eightor nine years old at the most, and so beautiful and gentle in herways.”

Soon, little by little, her very presence in the hut, insteadof being a burden, became a joy and blessing.

From the first morning the meals of the smallhousehold were changed. By noon the little ladyhad prepared a delicious soup which was taken

with great enjoyment by everyone, includingDunaj (doon-eye), who welcomed most noisily

and joyously his master and mistress. Then came adelicious cake with some nuts, which the new arrivals had

brought with them. When Lesina produced the suit and the promised new hat

and shoes, his wife helped to get Palko into his new clothes. From the first, the woman and the child seemed mutually at-tracted to one another. She remained almost silent in the pres-ence of older people, but as soon as she found herself alonewith Palko, she chatted with perfect ease, her beautiful voicesoft and melancholy, like a summer breeze blowing through thebirches of the forest.

When Liska (leesh-ka) appeared, there was another cake forhim to carry home and his young hostess replied kindly to anyquestion he asked. In fact, Liska had surreptitiously to wipe hiseyes several times that afternoon for he became quite overcomeby emotion each time he looked at her.

“You have done right in bringing your wife, my son,” saidJuriga to Lesina at the end of the week. “You were not mistakenin thinking that she would be pleased with Palko’s company.”

“Who could resist the attraction that the boy holds?” saidLesina as he balanced his chair against the wall of the hut andgazed contentedly across the valley.

So it was that both Juriga and Lesina could spend the wholeday at work secure in the knowledge that in such delightful com-pany the poor little woman would not find the time hangingheavily on her hands. In fact, she herself found the time alto-

gether too short for all the things she now seemed to find todo with Palko.

In addition, she found many things in the littlehut that required a thorough cleaning, includingPalko’s and Juriga’s clothing and bedding. She

cooked the meals, washed the dishes, hulledand cleaned the strawberries, and prepared the

other good things that she and Palko found in theirlong walks through the woods. When she had no other task to

keep her busy, she would seat herself in the sunlit doorway tomend everybody’s clothes and darn their socks. She even madea new shirt for Liska who had no one to look after him.

In the meantime, Palko surrounded her with every form ofloving care. He told her the story of the Sunshine Valley, towhich he took her on the very next day after her arrival. Heshowed her his Book and explained to her something of itswonderful contents. She listened with great interest even thoughat times she seemed to be lost in her own sad thoughts. Palkoknew that at such times she was thinking of her own little one.He began to love her very much, a love that grew day by day.

One day when his new auntie (as he began to call her fondly)was busy with some sewing and lost in her own thoughts, Palkorested his curly head on her shoulder saying, “It is so sad aboutyour lost child, isn’t it, Auntie? But don’t worry about it. Weare going to find him, you and I together. I have asked the LordJesus, and He is going to do it for me.”

The woman suddenly jumped to her feet, looked at Palkofixedly for a minute, and then gathered him in her arms. Hercloak had fallen to the ground and a ray of sunshine suddenlylit up both these fresh young faces each framed in its locks ofburnished gold and showing a most striking resemblance to theother.

“Do you believe that we shall find him, Palko?” she said fi-nally with an eager look on her face that Palko never forgot.

“I am sure of it,” Palko said, “for Jesus gives me whatI ask of Him. Tell me, what was he like?”

“He was quite like you, Palko, only, of course,he was quite small.”

“Could he walk?” the boy asked as he putan arm round his auntie.“Indeed he could! When I took him by the

hand, he was able to walk quite a way with me and he couldtake steps alone by himself.”

“What was his name?”“Mischko (meesh-ko).”“Mischko!” the boy repeated. “Well, then, when we go to

look for him, we shall call, ‘Mischko! Mischko!’ or you hadbetter do the calling for my voice would, perhaps, frighten him,Auntie. How long is it since you lost your Mischko?”

“How long?” she repeated and her lovely eyes began to wan-der a bit. “Oh, I don’t know, Palko! My head feels so strange. At times I can’t remember anything at all, but I seem so muchbetter since I came here to the mountain. Somehow the weightseems to have been lifted from my heart.”

“Do you know what you should do?” asked Palko. “Just livehere with us always. In the winter we shall go down to thevillage where we have such a big house and there will be plentyof room. There is a large living room and a kitchen and a littlebedroom for you and Uncle Lesina, and we shall all be so happytogether!”

“I?” cried his poor auntie. “Nothing would please me betterthan to live with you always, Palko dear,” and the tears welledup in Palko’s eyes at these tender words.

“I do love you so much, I do indeed, Auntie, although, totell you the truth, at first I did not wish to see you come here, because it meant I should have to leave the service of Malina

(mal-in-ah) the priest, whom I love, too, with all my heart. You see, he has taught me so many things and I would

so like to be with him. But he said it was my dutyto come here because I was in the service of theLord Jesus and now I am so happy, too, to be

here with you. But we were talking aboutyour boy, weren’t we?”“Yes and the people over in our part of the coun-

try are sure that a wild boar devoured him. But I am not ableto believe that,” declared the unhappy mother, shaking her head.“I am certain that he is living and we ought to find him. No, Idon’t believe he can be dead.”

“Nor do I believe it, Auntie,” said Palko. “All that the peoplesay is just foolish talk. The Lord Jesus, whom I have asked to letus find him, would not have allowed the wild beasts to devourhim. Perhaps, Auntie, somebody found your boy, Mischko, andhas kept him safe all this time. In that case, what would be theuse of looking for him on the mountain? Who knows where hemight be?”

Suddenly standing up and pressing her hands to her fore-head and with a fixed stare, the unhappy woman repeated, in alow voice, “Yes, who knows where he might be?”

“Never mind, dear Auntie,” Palko said in a consoling tone.“Just remember one thing: the Lord Jesus knows. We will askHim to show us where he is. There are many women who cometo the mountain and we will ask each one of them if they havefound a boy. Perhaps the Saviour will send us the one who hashim safe in her home.”

From that moment, whenever they were alone together,Lesina’s wife would talk to Palko about her little Mischko. Hein turn taught her to ask the Lord to show them where her sonwas and she became comforted. Indeed, her pale cheeks be-came quite tanned, and she even seemed to lose some of her

timidity in the presence of older people. She became a fa-vorite with nearly everybody on the mountainside and

many tried to do what they could to make life pleas-ant for her.

Lesina’s joy knew no bounds. Before, his wife

had behaved in a strained and unnatural wayin his presence and endeavored to avoid her hus-

band whenever she could. Now all was changed. In the evening, when he sat down by the door of the hut, shewould bring her knitting and sit by his side on the steps with alook of the old tenderness in her eyes that he had known beforeMischko disappeared. When they read aloud from the NewTestament, which custom was resumed now that Lesina hadreturned, she would sit close beside him and listen attentively.

Lesina learned to believe in God’s free and unbounded lovefor sinners and at the same time to ask with faith in the LordJesus that He would heal his dear wife. Palko had repeated tothem some of the clear explanations of the priest and told howhe had said that at last he had found the way to the true Sun-shine Country through his reading of the Book. Now Lesinadesired to find it also. He wanted with all his heart to have hispoor wife find it, too, but in her present mental state could she,by any chance, come to believe in the Lord Jesus also?

They read in the Book day after day, not only line after line, but also began again at the beginning in order to pick up theforgotten threads. Every day they came to understand thingsbetter and better and the way to the Sunshine Country seemedto open up before them all. Then there came a long spell ofrain and so this precious time was taken advantage of and theyprogressed rapidly in their reading.

Liska also was found constantly with them and did not re-turn to his own house until after nightfall making many anexcuse to be with Palko that they might talk together about what

had been read.To be continued in the next issue…

    SCAVENGER HUNT!!!

The thing was, we weren’t finding objects, we were finding

“clue holders.” The clue holders were people who talked

to us about a word that was associated with the tabernacle

and what that word meant. Then, they gave us a piece of

paper with a word on it. We all trooped back to the meet-

ing room and started... well... I can’t tell you the whole

story! I would ruin it!! Because.....

The following pages are the hunt we did!!!! It’s all

laid out for you to do it as well!

The first page is double-sided. Cut all the rect-

angles out. One side has a word on it. The

other side has a word and a number (for ex-

ample, Brass 1). The last page has just the

words and number. Match the words/numbers (for example, Brass 1)

that you cut out from the double page to the same word/number

(Brass 1) on the last page. When you are finished you will have the

same thing that we had when we were done!

Before you start, look over the following words and think about their

    meanings.

    Brass = Judgement

    Gold = Nature of God

    Purple = Royalty

    Blue = Righteousness

    White = Purity

    Red = Blood of Jesus

    Silver = Redemption

    Three = Fullness

    Wood = Humanity

    Hello Boys and Girls!!!!
